Batman™: The Dark Knight ChallengeEscapology - StonestownEscape roomIRLI really wanted this room to be amazing. I had high hopes. (I really want to try their Scooby-Doo themed room because I hear it's good? Though, after our experience with this one, I don't know if my family will do it with me!) We didn't have a great experience with this room. It felt like it was too small for the four of us, and we kept bumping into each other. There just didn't seem like enough for everyone to do--maybe it would be better with 2 instead of 4 players? There was a lot of detail put into the props and set pieces, but it felt like I was so frustrated and in a rush that I didn't get to enjoy them. Some of the items were high-tech, and others felt too easy, too mechanical. I don't know why, but the whole theme of the room didn't seem to work for me. It felt like it was cobbled together.
Chapter 1: Occam's ApartmentOff The Couch GamesEscape roomIRLThis one is Chapter 1 of the story. This first chapter is more typical escape room faire. It sets up the story that you'll be following for chapters 2 and 3 as well. I highly recommend these rooms to anyone who likes escape rooms and/or interactive storytelling. We had a long conversation with the designer about these rooms and what he wants to do with them. It's absolutely fascinating. The gameplay was great, the set design was great. What really excites me about these rooms, though, is what he wants to do with them in the long run. He wants to turn the whole complex into an interactive story/immersive experience. I think something like that would be absolutely amazing. While you're waiting for your time to go into the next chapter room, you can go to the Boba shop or interact with the actors there--like a cross between a renaissance faire and an interactive experience at Comic Con. Your game will change depending on the choices that you make in it. Are you going to fight to save certain characters, or let them die? What pieces are you going to hang onto, and which pieces are you going to leave behind? How will you interact with the actors in the game? All of these things will affect how your character is treated, and what your storyline is like. I just wish I could go through it again.
Chapter 2: Norcross Art GalleryOff The Couch GamesEscape roomIRLThis one is Chapter 2 of the story. If you haven't done "Occam's Apartment" yet, you definitely want to (have to?) do that one first. Otherwise, you won't understand the story. I highly recommend these rooms to anyone who likes escape rooms and/or interactive storytelling. That being said, this is probably my least favorite of the 3 rooms. I found some of the puzzles to be quite easy. Though some of it really fit into the story--and your place in the story. You make choices to personalize your experience. Are you going to be a good guy or a bad guy? A lot of that falls into place during this experience. I just wish I could go through it again.
Chapter 3: The MorgueOff The Couch GamesEscape roomIRLThis one is Chapter 3 of the story. If you haven't done "Occam's Apartment" and "Norcross Art Gallery" yet, you definitely want to (have to?) do those first. Otherwise, you won't understand the story. That being said, this is my favorite of the 3 rooms, even though it's freaking scary to me! The level of tension in this room is off the charts. Members of your group are pulled out one or two at a time to do additional challenges, testing your bravery and critical thinking skills. I was only brave enough to do one of them--a taste testing challenge--and it was HARD! The choices that you've made throughout the rest of the story will adjust what you come into contact with in this room--how are things set up here, what are you coming in with, etc. I don't think I ever would have thought about turning a morgue into a game show. I just wish I could go through it again.
Chernobyl Disaster: Moments AfterThe Escape RevolutionEscape roomIRLThere were a couple of times during gameplay where puzzles were quite individual and we would be bottlenecked waiting for one or two players to finish up a task so we could all move forward. That being said, the atmosphere of the game was amazing. The special effects were top notch. We were really awed by the set decoration. It was also really, really hot in there.
Death by ChocolateBond's Escape Room - ArlingtonEscape roomIRLThe design of this room was super cute. A chocolate factory on steroids! lol! Though, there was some darkness in the plot (kids are going missing!!) the rest of the room was really fun. I liked the tetris-like puzzle. There was another puzzle that was INCREDIBLY frustrating. I would go to this company again.
Dick Tracy Vs The Spider GangEscape The Room OregonEscape roomIRLHonestly, I think the main reason that we didn't escape this room was that so many of the locks all had 4 digit codes. We'd find a 4 digit code and have to try it on like, 8 different locks. That being said, some of the things were really cool--one room was pitch black so we didn't even know that the window was a window and not a mirror. The special effects were pretty stellar.
Drago's Castle5 Wits - ArlingtonEscape roomOther This room is more of an interactive story than a true escape room. It's quite fun. There's a set amount of time that you can use for each of the puzzles, and if you spend too long, the voice over says "I'll open this for you" (or something along those lines) and ushers you forward so you don't miss out on the rest of the story. It was incredibly child friendly, though there was one moment of "scary" at the end.
