Stalked by a KillerBold Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLThis was my very first escape room adventure - and what an experience it was! Quite scary with great sets and fun, challenging puzzles that were relevant to the narrative. We did it as just 2 novice escape room players and didn't come anywhere close to escaping. Definitely would be better for a group of 4+. The only drawback may have been the walkie talkie clue system which was a bit clunky to use. Sad to hear Bold Escape Rooms has closed!
Jurrassic LabsGreen Light Escape Room | The Breakout RoomEscape roomIRLMy inexperienced group of 4 had a fun time with Jurassic Labs. I would describe this as a predominantly Gen 1 room with a couple Gen 2 elements. 80% of the puzzles involved finding number combinations for locks by counting and deciphering puzzles on paper which was slightly disappointing. There was at least some world-building and story included with some of the puzzles which helped flesh things out a bit! A particular puzzle involving a circuit breaker was clever and fun. There was one paper puzzle later in the game that felt overly complex which really slowed us down. Thankfully our gamemaster gave us just enough hints to get through it. We finished with 2 mins to spare! Overall, I'd rate this room as Hard as my novice group required quite a few clues throughout. Nothing blew my mind but Jurassic Labs is a solid experience with decent atmosphere and puzzles if a bit lower tech than some of the newer rooms out there.
Houdini's Last EscapeEscape Room PittsburghEscape roomIRLLoved Houdini's Last Escape! Good for beginner and advanced puzzlers alike. Not impossibly hard but not easy either. Cool atmosphere and theming. Love the authentic, handcrafted feel of this place. I also dug that our game master stayed in theme when giving clues. She was a delight. Some slight nitpicks - a little too many combo locks + the initial room is sparse / feels a bit out of place + most of the puzzles weren't really integrated with the theme / story. However, the whole experience is capped off with a climactic (and in-theme!) final puzzle for a spectacular finish. Would recommend!
Classified!The Escape Game - AustinEscape roomIRLHad fun with Classified! At the time, this was only my second escape room experience. From reading other reviews, it looks like they have replaced this game with an updated version called Special Ops: Mysterious Market at most The Escape Game locations, however I still think this game is worth playing in Austin. Very clever, relevant puzzles and high quality set design. No crazy tech or WOW moments but still a polished and fun game. I would describe the difficulty as moderate. We escaped as a team of 4 with about 10 min remaining.
