40 escape rooms
3/10 The owner of Escape on Purpose is such a nice guy, so it pains me to write a review that is not necessarily positive. Maybe this type of room is appealing to some escape room goers, but it was not for us unfortunately. The theming and props is the highlight here; lots of airplane and airport themed things like boarding passes, suitcases, real airplane seats, overheard storage, and stewardess areas do make that portion feel genuine. This is a stark contrast to the puzzles, unfortunately. While assumed initially that the magazines and papers due to sheer volume were just theming and decor, we realized after a while of spinning our wheels that each magazine had a piece of paper for a clue hidden inside them. It was more a scavenger hunt at times- making sure we went through every page, every bag, every drawer we opened was just another piece of paper or a 4 digit to one of the 20-something 4 digit locks... it was unfortunately just redundant and boring, especially because you had to test the code in nearly every single lock each time.. There was also randomly a Kenken puzzle? About halfway through doing these "puzzles" I mentally gave up. Numbers required for puzzles were "hidden" in long narrative paragraphs too many times. Luckily my partner was committed to finishing it, the room culminated in what actually ended up being a semi-interesting final room; leaving me wondering if the theming for the main room really held the designer back.
