Nuns disappear from the monastery. Nobody knows where they go or what is going on… At the same time, the popularity and reputation of the recently opened restaurant Le Monastère continues to grow. The famous chef Gaston Boucher, awarded a Michelin star for his excellent soup, does not want to share anything about this success and guards his secrets firmly. In Soup du Jour you have reserved a table for a dinner in our prestigious restaurant, but you will soon discover that in the kitchen nothing is quite as it seems, and that the chef is not so friendly at all… Break into Gastons’ private test kitchen, but beware: Gaston has a violent temper! If you’re caught it could be your head on the chopping block… Use your sleuthing skills to decipher the clues hidden in his old restaurant menu’s. The door is closed behind you and the chef is grinding his knives. You only have 75 minutes to discover what really happens in his restaurant and to get out alive!

Gaston Boucher and his Le Monastère are a longtime institution. However it is still worth it visiting! Soup du Jour combines fantastic set design, creative and well-thought-out puzzles, and a perfectly balanced mix of suspense, surprises, and dark humor. The immersive atmosphere and excellent in-character performance by our GM made the experience truly special. Much more than just a restaurant. Or an escape room?!?

We played Soup du jour on our first escape trip and so it came with pretty tough competition, we very much enjoyed the room. The puzzles were plenty (not super tough though) and very well supported the story - and some of them were still quite unique we thought. Our GM with who we also had the chance to talk a little afterwards was also super welcoming and let us glimpse into some of the journey of the room - a thumbs up from us. ❤️ 5/6 exceptionally cool room - don’t miss it!

Gameplay

I liked the dark story that actually revealed itself nicely from room to room

Atmosphere

Given that the game is already older it has some quite unique puzzles we very much liked

Customer service

The welcome lounge was quite nice and our GM played his role superb and we had a super chat afterwards. Top customer service.

This was a fun room! Nothing amazing, but just fun puzzle solving in a nice location. The story is ok, but I would say this is a game where the puzzles are at the front. A super cool location, and I want to go back when Poppet 2.0 is ready!

Our first visit to this amazing location did not disappoint. Soup du Jour was a challenge for the two of us and we stumbled a few times but mostly self imposed and not the set nor the play. Our very generous GM gave us a few extra minutes to ensure we’d see the entire experience. Definitely a must play when in the Amersfoort area.

While I didn't love the premise, I thought it was well executed. The set was immersive and eventually creepy, the puzzles made sense and were good. Great intro - the GM's persona was very well done.

This was a really fun escape room! Personally, I found it the least scary one at Rock City Escape, but definitely not any less enjoyable. The puzzles were creative and well thought out, and it was great that we could work on several things in parallel. The set design looked fantastic, and there were a few nice, surprising moments throughout. The “special effects” didn’t add much for me personally. Story-wise, I found it a bit odd that we could constantly see the chef, without any real interaction or sense of threat coming from him. One small downside was the ending — it felt rather abrupt. While the other rooms at Rock City Escape have a more rounded and satisfying conclusion, this one suddenly seemed to be over. That said, it’s definitely a room worth playing! Highly recommended if you’re visiting – the game hosts and overall atmosphere at Rock City Escape are absolutely fantastic!

This escape room provided a solid and engaging experience with a clear narrative thread that guided players through a variety of well-integrated puzzles. Set within the atmospheric backdrop of a monastery, the room's décor and ambiance were fittingly detailed, contributing to an immersive environment. While not groundbreaking, the puzzles were generally well-crafted and stayed true to the room's theme, offering a mix of medium to challenging difficulty levels. One notable aspect was the interactivity throughout the space, where many puzzles were cleverly embedded into the room's layout, allowing for simultaneous exploration and puzzle-solving in the central chamber. The game's structure effectively utilized lighting cues to signify progress, aiding in maintaining momentum and clarity on which puzzles remained to be solved. The presence of a responsive game master, initially guiding the experience and later providing hints via speakers, ensured a smooth gameplay flow. Despite some areas where room elements could have been slightly enhanced for a more polished experience, the overall design and execution were commendable. With adequate clues and a 75-minute time frame, the room offered a satisfying challenge without feeling rushed. It stands as a well-rounded choice for escape room enthusiasts looking for an enjoyable blend of thematic immersion and interactive puzzle-solving.
