You are captured by a serial killer. Tied up and left in his lair, escape is your only chance. His method of operation is much like one Infamous Zodiac killer had. Has the real Zodiac returned or is this his copycat? You have only 60 minutes to escape, or the next body in a morgue will be yours.

This room had the perfect balance of creepy atmosphere, engaging puzzles and set design. All the puzzles were logical was satisfying to solve.

Having played all but one experience across the Australian franchises, ‘Zodiac Killer’ stands as one of my favourite Fox in a Box rooms. This spooky game delivers charming ‘70s aesthetics tinted with hints of gore. The reason this game shines is due to its wide puzzle pool. It’s their most diverse collection of experiences, with some scarcely found — yet very enjoyable — puzzle types appearing within the ‘Zodiac Killer’ game flow. While this is the room’s strength, the way some puzzles are delivered is its downfall. Red herrings are readily offered at a few points in the experience’s 60-minute runtime. This can cause frustration and confusion, particularly for inexperienced teams and first-timers. On the scariness of the room: despite being the latest potential victims of the supposed Zodiac Killer, no live actors can be found within this room. There is one manually created jump scare, however, and this can be opted out of by discussing with the host upon your arrival. There is one other loud jump scare that may be unavoidable, but, apart from that, this room isn’t by any means the scariest room. Just be prepared for a touch of blood-splatter on a room’s decor. With all of this being said, it’s a great room and arguably their strongest design. Be brave — can you escape in time?
Gameplay was great with decent flow between puzzles. It was primarily linear but had deliberate red herrings that slightly impacted the gameplay. While we were experienced enough to look past it, it is easy to see how a new team would struggle with this.
Fox in a Box always kick it out of the park with their aesthetics.
GM was great!
No
Story was there to interact with but didn’t particularly drive the experience. It would be easy to leave the game without understanding what the narrative shared.
Medium
Hard for newer teams due to red herrings.
