Laughton Mansion, New England - the year is 1992. The Whitby family was one of the wealthiest families in New England during the 1900’s. The Whitby Mansion (with over 90 bedrooms), was built for James and Edith Whitby. Legend has it, James (the Lord of the manor) went mad and murdered his entire family. After their death, the Whitby Mansion was sold at auction, it was then re-named and turned into the luxurious Laughton Hotel. There have been more supernatural events witnessed in this hotel than anywhere else on earth - with stories that will make your hair stand on end. Due to the unexplained deaths and unusual occurrences, the Laughton Hotel was eventually shuttered in 1992 – and unfortunately, detectives and paranormal investigators who have tried to explore the old mansion for evidence, were never seen again. Locals say that any living thing caught in the hotel at the stroke of midnight will become part of the spirit world forever… but your curiosity got the best of you. Your goal is to find proof that paranormal activity exists; and if you’re lucky, crack the unsolved mystery of Edith Whitby’s disappearance, whose body has never been found…

Ultimately I felt that this room was just OK, there weren't any unique or memorable puzzles. We went in with five people (which was likely too many) and made it out with minimal hints and plenty of time to spare. We felt the ending was fairly anticlimactic, but most puzzles felt logical and unfrustrating (with the exception of one). Overall, pretty mid experience.

This wasn't the finest escape room I've ever done. We solved all but one of the puzzles and asked for a hint. And had to ask for a hint on the hint twice thereafter. The puzzle made no sense whatsoever and was very frustrating. Even after knowing the solve it still made no sense. Maybe because I'm not the most seasoned escape room player but it was such a buzzkill from the overall experience.

Gameplay

Not at all. There wasn't a linear story line to follow, which is fine. But there was a singular puzzle that ruined the entire experience because it wasn't a good design and the solve had nothing to do with the story - I'm not sure how other players would have figured it out. It was a relatively easy room aside from one puzzle.

Atmosphere

Good atmosphere good reception/lobby area. Very well done in that regard. I would revisit the establishment due to this fact. Their other games can't possibly be as bad.

Really stellar set and effects. Puzzles blended well in the environment. Just wish it had a little better pacing and structure. Would recommend for a smaller group.
