Definitely some jump scare moments. The puzzles were cute. It was my friend’s son’s first escape room and he hit the ground running. I liked the second room (schoolhouse) puzzles the best. We had the pleasure of playing with the previous owner and a person from a Facebook escape enthusiast group. This room is definitely doable with 2-3 but it was nice to make new friends

Overall a good room, but one puzzle left us a little rattled. As a result we had to rush through the rest of the room, but thankfully our GM gave us an extra minute to finish. The puzzles had a weird flow, and it was hard to tell what led to what and at one point an opening was obscured. The puzzle that we had trouble with was an annoying design and we felt led astray. It’s otherwise an interesting take on the Wild West room, yeehaw!

My group of four recently took on the Western challenge of "Outlaw's Hideout" at Escape Again Rooms, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time stepping back into the Slocum School House. This room is a great choice for both seasoned enthusiasts and motivated beginners looking for a solid puzzle experience. The room draws you into the urban legend of "The Rattlesnake," a notorious train robber, starting your adventure at the old Slocum School House. Our group absolutely loved that this was a multi-room experience. It helps keep the energy high and gives everyone space to work! The evolution of the environment as you solve puzzles provides some truly exciting moments of discovery. This is where "Outlaw's Hideout" truly shines. While the room does feature your expected classic array of padlocks to keep traditional puzzle fans happy, the true standout is the sheer variety of inventive, custom-built mechanisms. Beyond just entering combinations, prepare for puzzles that involve manual manipulation, clever engineering, and amazing physical reveals. The non-lock interactions are seamlessly integrated and feel incredibly satisfying to solve; they truly elevate the experience beyond a typical room. The puzzles themselves are well-balanced; they aren't overly difficult but require focused thinking. We appreciated that the flow evolves: it starts somewhat linearly and then opens up, requiring you to work on multiple tasks at once, especially in the exciting, fast-paced final act, which was our favorite part! The overall lore of the mysterious sheriff and the Rattlesnake is intriguing, but the story connection could be stronger. Throughout the room, my group found ourselves highly focused on the excellent puzzles, but we often lost the thread of why we were doing what we were doing in terms of the narrative. While the puzzle design is top-tier, a clearer narrative path would help ground the players and elevate the overall immersion. Our group of four felt perfect, giving everyone a chance to shine and solve a major piece of the puzzle. While the maximum is eight, I would strongly recommend this room for no more than 6 adults to ensure everyone remains engaged and has adequate space. If you're bringing children, the max group size is more manageable. The ending especially benefits from having multiple minds working simultaneously!

Fun and engaging puzzles with a nice flow with the overall experience made totally enjoyable by our gamemaster. He was constantly engaged and attentive during our game time and gave us timely nudges to ensure we didn't waste time and finished the game satisfactorily! We were two people who maintained a good momentum throughout. I will say that while doable with 2, ideally, 3-4 people would greatly help attend to a few puzzles in parallel and more efficiently. This, along with the 2 other rooms in this location have been memorable experiences. Management is very good.

Gameplay

Flows well with a decent mix of non-linear gameplay. Challenging but solvable puzzles - imp to maintain good momentum.

Very doable with 2 (we did) as long as you don't get stuck for more than 5 mins on a puzzle (not knowing what to do). But, 3-4 would be great for efficiency on puzzles that can be solved in parallel or require coverage of physical area.

I’m surprised by how much I liked this room. Our group of five did Escape Again’s rooms back to back and this room ranks for first place, tied with Wizards. Customer service is over the top amazing and we loved getting to know Mike and his passion. The room had a mixture of tactile and strategy puzzles. The set was really well put together and the story felt cohesive. It was the perfect blend of old and new. In this room, pay close attention to things that open. It is on the older side but the puzzles were executed well, so I’m hesitant to recommend changing anything other than the aesthetic up-keep. We look forward to returning to complete this company’s other escape rooms - the ones they build in the future.

We loved this room! Me and my friends had a fantastic time. The set was really well put together, the story was well done and the puzzles were challenging without being confusing. We spoke with the owner for a while after playing and had a lovely conversation. He seems really passionate about escape rooms and takes a lot of pride in his craft.

We had a great time at this room. It was a perfect blend of old and new, and the theming was very well thought out and executed. There were a couple of neat special effects that made us smile and laugh. The difficulty of the puzzles was perfect for our group of experienced escapers. We’re looking forward to returning to complete this company’s other rooms.
