21 escape rooms
This room puts you in a Lovecraftian storyline with alchemists playing with life and death. Your life outside your waiting room in limbo melts away within minutes after solving the first puzzle: how to get inside. My family of 4 works really well as a team but this room would be very difficult for a couple to attack alone. Non-linear thinking is a must, as is good pattern recognition. We averted disaster at a very steep price. Hopefully you choose well.
Gameplay
Every element was part of a cohesive story. We had a few technical difficulties and a few of us are a bit hard of hearing and had difficulty understanding the oral clues.
Atmosphere
Excellent. It was very immersive.
Customer service
The experience starts the moment you walk in. Our GM/Proctor was helpful but not invasive. We were in a large non-riveted group, so we all had different play styles and she did a great job of stealing us in the right direction. This is not the “voice of God” direction, she was in the room with us.
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
This was not the typical picking locks escape room. The puzzles were creative and extremely difficult but hard enough we had to work together.
Story
Everything flowed well. There were several story time breaks where we progressed the plot. There was plenty of travel back and forth between multiple rooms and everything was related.
Difficulty
Medium
Nothing REQUIRED outside knowledge but it was helpful at times. We solved all the puzzles but it was down to the wire. As a group of three teams who didn’t know each other going in, we bonded by the end through solving puzzles together.
Game tech
Mechanical
There were issues with the sensors not working correctly or releasing when triggered.
Ideal number of players
5
This is not a private game play experience. Some parts of the room were very difficult to fit the full group of 10 in.
Scary
Not scary
Minimum age
14
It’s a bit intense and there are some themes that younger kids may be disturbed by. Our teens were fine.
Was anything broken?
Yes
One puzzle was broken and one was not reset. It wasn’t to disruptive but we did need to ask for help with the broken puzzle because it wasn’t caught on observation. The piece that was not reset seemed to have a malfunctioning magnet that eventually did work.
Live actors
Yes
There is a host in limbo, the waiting room. He was very entertaining. Our dedicated GM was an actress who was in our near our room the entire game and was great about staying in character regardless of the starkness of our teens. They have a very creative way of addressing snark.
Physically active
Somewhat
This space is not especially wheelchair friendly and there are a few minor tight doorways but otherwise the puzzles are limited from knee to head height on an average adult. No heavy lifting, bending, crawling, jumping, or reaching needed.
Accessibility
Some of the clues are oral and the space is noisy while the clues are quietly given. Some parts of the room have low lighting. There is a trip hazard in one part of the room which several members of our party tripped over.
Easy to find location
Yes
The directions given on the website and email confirmation were easy to follow but you would not just stumble across the location.
Parking
Easy
Ample parking on a Saturday night.
Safety
Yes
No danger here.
