There’s a famous legend of an orphanage run by a lady, who started off with the best intentions, only to become responsible for one of the most gruesome crimes ever committed in Mexico City... After the death of husband in a freak car accident, Mrs. Antonia Mondragon inherited her husband’s substantial estate. Never being able to have children herself, she decided to build an orphanage for the poorest children of the city. In 1952 the Chapultepec Mondragon opened its doors in Colima 367 in the Roma Norte district of Mexico City. Being a little bit older, Antonia, also known as “la Tia Toña”, started to lose her patience with the children. She was an extremely pious and devout catholic and would not tolerate any misbehavior. The orphans became increasingly scared of her and started to suspect that the few orphans that were “adopted” were actually tortured and killed by her in order to save their souls. Not long after, Mrs Mondragon mysteriously committed suicide and the children were nowhere to be found. Neighbors started reporting loud noises and screaming coming from the house, but when police entered they found nothing out of the ordinary. The house was eventually abandoned, nobody wanting to live or work in a place where so many unspeakable things had happened, allowing it to be relatively preserved until now.
