In the heart of Escaparium Laval's massive complex nestles a mysterious monument classified as a World Heritage Site, forgotten for several centuries: an ancient cathedral. Escaparium was built around this characterful building that once served as a sanctuary for a now extinct cult. Archaeological excavations and restoration of the monument have been underway for several years now. This allowed us to make major discoveries on the history of the cathedral and on a certain cult that we name, "The Order". Artifacts of rituals dating back centuries have been found and are currently being investigated. Come take the guided tour through the myths and legends of a forgotten past. A trip which you will never forget. (this is an escape game)!

Escaparium Laval is just on a different level. It's easy to see why this room is rated so highly. We really enjoyed this room. This was our 4th room at this location and, just when you think they can't come up with anything new, they do. We really liked the set. Really awesome. The puzzles were super fun. What we like about this room vs. others at this location is there didn't seem to be another group ahead of us so we got to go through it as fast as we wanted to instead of being slowed down. That made it really fast paced and fun. This is another must-do room.

Incredibly immersive and spooky experience. The story line is very good and the atmosphere is perfect. The puzzles were fair; I only found one tool that you must use to be a little bit inconsistent in the early rooms. Expect to be hesitant to move in certain spots. It is worth the price - to anyone hesitant due to price - Escaparium is a theatre show and escape room in one. There are flashing lights for anyone sensitive to that. I was a little disappointed that we asked for a heads up warning before any strobe lights - and we did not receive it. But otherwise, the GM and workers were amazing.

The set is world-class and grand. It was impressive and spacious, and generally well-utilized. One puzzle we had a major disconnect, and we struggled greatly, even with hints. The opening was incredibly memorable, and there were special moments throughout. The credits at the end were also unique and nicely capped it off. The experience is spooky and eerie, but not here to cause terror. I enjoyed my visit to the Cathedral, but this was not as impactful as their other games for me, and I preferred others at this location

This room is beautiful, very well designed and has some incredible special effects. Definitely a must do and definitely a recommendation. The balance of scary level is very light and is well balanced to make it even more engaging.

This room was outstanding. Stellar set design, build quality, and visual effects. Solid puzzles.. Even the somewhat standard "figure out which buttons to hold down" trope was done in a very cool and creative way that elevates the experience. The puzzles were integrated very well into the storyline and environment. Even accounting for recency bias, this was one of my very top escape room experiences. The production level is astounding and sets a very high bar. My only quibble is with the opening briefing, which takes place in a hallway adjoining (in the open office sense) a fabrication shop where people were working. And while they dressed the hallway to make it thematic, it still felt very work-in-progress and prototype-like, which was a huge contrast with the rest of the game.

Gameplay

Gameplay was generally terrific, with a few truly great mechanics. An early interaction (to open the first door) could benefit from better affordances about what you need to manipulate. One puzzle used a mechanic I haven't ever seen before involving metal detectors (not a spoiler, the game intro discusses them) that was fresh and creative. The puzzles were great collaborative solves-- there wasn't a moment where someone split off and solved something solo.

Atmosphere

The cathedral set is sumptuously atmospheric, and the sculpture work is epic. The are multiple creative uses of water, and the lighting effects are stellar.

Story

The story was perhaps the weakest element. Many details got lost (though English wasn't our GM's first language, so that may have contributed). But I didn't miss them-- "the cathedral's possessed, do rituals to exorcise the demon" is really all you need.

Difficulty

Medium

GMs never let you get stuck for long, which I generally dislike but was mostly welcome here, as the GM never told us how to solve something, but rather told us how to accomplish the mechanics when they weren't clear from the environment. That was a common theme across all Escaparium rooms-- affordances ("place the McGuffin HERE") were often missing, and they rely on the GMs to provide them. Unfortunately this often feels like you're getting hinted through the experience, and it would be much better to have those cues be in the environment so players can discover them independently.

There are some very steep and narrow stairs, but also ample safety railings and handholds.

Accessibility

You need at least 2 players who can climb very steep stairs, and all players need to be able to climb and crawl.

Such a good room, the set was better than disney level production etc. One of our favorites despite spooky/horror not being a favorite theme. The aesthetics and decor were on another level just like many of Escaparium games.

The Forgotten Cathedral is my second favorite room at this location and across every room I've done, behind Magnifico. I can't praise the set design here enough. It is beautiful and larger than life. While the story isn't as present in the room, the room is incredibly cinematic. There is one sequence that felt like I was in a top tier movie. I really don't want to spoil anything, but even just the way this room starts feels completely unique and took us all by surprise. I will highlight that this room involves a lot of traversal, and we did have a lot more guidance than the others at the start because we were struggling a bit with the puzzles. Other than that, I think it is really immersive and has a lot of tricks up its sleeve.
