Deadman's Bounty

This was a fun game with a few issues. First of all, the room was visually well done and had some clever puzzles that I enjoyed. I also liked that there were a lot of puzzles of various difficulty so we all felt like we were solving things. The issue came with so many locks being 4 digit available all at once- a personal pet peeve of mine. This could be solved by varying the type of locks, “nesting” some boxes, or adding matching symbols or colors so that players know which lock to try.

This was a surprisingly fun game. I thought they did a great job with the set. Lots of puzzles with many satisfying reveals. If any constructive criticism could be given it would be firstly to give some diversity to their combination locks. There were probably 6-7 (maybe more) combo locks in the game that were all 4 digit number locks. This became very tedious to try and put a code you solved into all of them. Also the puzzle types could also use a little diversity. There was certainly some repetition happening with the types of puzzles. But that is nit picking what is a fun game.

The atmosphere and theme were awesome and I really enjoyed most of the puzzles in this room! There were one or two puzzles that I hadn’t seen in any other room I’ve played, and I really enjoyed them. It was mostly mechanical, but there were a few high tech puzzles that were fun and interesting. The only downside of the room was that every mechanical lock is a 4-digit code, so there is no variety in locks. Again, the puzzles themselves were really good, but the massive amounts of the same lock can disrupt the flow of the room. We would get a code and then have to try 10+ of the exact same lock, sometimes missing one or two because there were so many available to us. However, I certainly wouldn’t let that discourage you from playing this game, it was definitely worth it, and we plan to go back to play their others. One of the owners was at the front desk and he was very nice and welcoming. All the staff we interacted with seemed kind and friendly too. Our Game Master, who we didn’t interact with before or after our game (aside from a picture), gave us A LOT of hints. We didn’t ask for any hints, but we were getting them every 5 minutes or so. We totally understand getting nudges or a little help when we need it, and we’re all for that, but we were getting a lot of hints that were really more answers than anything else. We felt sort of pushed at times, especially because we escaped with 10 minutes left. We felt we could’ve spent a little more time on certain puzzles without the GM telling us what to do. However, we could’ve asked for them to only give us hints if we were falling behind. Overall it’s a really fun room with a great atmosphere and nice people. I would suggest stopping by and giving it a try. Plus, who doesn’t love pirates?

Owner is so nice. Had the right balance of technology and traditional locks. It flowed very well. One puzzle we got tripped up on, but after a quick hint it went well.

This room was exceedingly okay. Pretty middle of the road. The set work was pretty nice but the puzzles often didn’t have a very satisfying solution. Not bad.

The atmosphere and decor was top notch amd the room had some really nice electronic/ digital features. However, the room had some smalle issues that make it not very user friendly at times. First, all of the locks are either keyed or 4 digit manual lock codes. Therefore, once you get a code figured out it’s not clear which lock the code goes to. With all of the different locks available, I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t have used more of a variety different locks so you knew what specific lock the code will open. Secondly, the lighting is very dim in some parts of the room. A small flashlight would come in handy to be able to see the numbers on the locks or examine the keys. Also, we lost a good bit of time going back and figuring out the number codes again because there is NOTHING to take notes on—so by the time we figured out all of the numbers of a code we had forgotten the first one or what order the numbers are in. We tried storing them in one of the locks but there was the issue of not knowing if you were working the correct lock or not. Some of the features are exceptionally nice but there is nothing to guide you on how they work. So unless you are familiar with these concepts you will depend on the game master to tell you how to make it work. And speaking of the game master, he did a nice job but sometimes gave us much more information than we would have wanted. Instead of guiding us towards what to do, he spelled out exactly what to do step by step. And lastly, there is a section of the room that you use more than once, which is atypical of the majority of escape rooms we have done. Overall, I would recommend this room, but it is not without issues.

This room was outstanding. It has become one of my top 5 rooms. I highly recommend this one.
