Das Voodoo Vermächtnis [The Voodoo Legacy]

We had no idea what to expect of this room since we spontaneously booked it on our way to a different escaperoom company, but I do not regret playing it! While the riddles were on the traditional side and the beginning wasn't that interesting, the room surprised us on several occasions, especially when revealing a mechanism we haven't seen in any other escaperoom before.

The Voodoo Legacy by FunXperience Bad Oeynhausen was our 8th escape room of the Germany tour and 5th of an intense day, with our same group of 3. As mentioned in our previous review for The Secret of the Magic Trail, expectations were modest due to the overall entertainment mix at the venue (Laser Tag, Neon Golf, etc.). But this room completely blew us away. From the moment you step into the New Orleans-style Voodoo shop, you’re immersed in a beautifully atmospheric experience. I have a personal fondness for this theme, and it hit all the right notes, from lighting to sound design to the incredible props. There was one particular section that completely blew our minds with how it was constructed and revealed. Truly a standout moment of the tour. The puzzles were more traditional, not overly challenging, and we finished with 20 minutes to spare. While they weren’t the highlight, they served the narrative well and never broke immersion. The only downside was a technical issue with the English audio, which mid way switched to German and wasn’t fixed. It was a small thing but would’ve added a lot of charm had it worked properly. Also, the GM felt a bit rushed at the end, likely because we were the last group of the day, which slightly undercut the post game vibe. Still, highly recommended for all players, the experience, environment, and execution are top notch. If you’re into moody, immersive storytelling with a unique theme, this one’s a must.
