We’ve discovered a time machine in the basement of Black Mountain’s oldest building! It’s going to take just the right team to operate it successfully.

Wow!! This was such a fun room. From the decorations, the puzzles, to the acting involved I was obsessed from the beginning. About 5 hours away from where I live and I will most definitely be making the journey to come back. The building is so beautiful, you wouldn't have known it might have been damaged back during Helene. The only complaint I have is one of the puzzles involves a lot of staring at a light that isn't necessarily flashing like a strobe, but is repeating enough I couldn't participate. Regardless, I still had enough to do even if I couldn't participate with that part. We had a group of 6 which definitely felt like the perfect amount, especially since it was 1 player's first room.
The clue system is through an old phone, which was really cute considering the theme. Very cute design. They make it obvious what's decor and what's potentially a puzzle without screaming it at you.
The game master was phenomenal. I believe he also may have been the owner? Regardless, absolute sweetheart. Big reason I want to go back was because of how much he clearly enjoyed hosting.

I have a soft spot for time travel so maybe I'm biased but this was certainly my favorite I've played in that theme
Very easy to follow and shown through the room
Hard
I would personally rate it 7/10 in difficulty.
High tech
Hightech as it is a time travel room, but still lots of good mechanical aspects. Perfect blend of both.

No one scaring you, just guiding through the story at some points.

Moving through stairs to get to the building/to the room. Moving back and forth through the rooms. Plenty of seating if needed.
Moving through stairs to get to the building/to the room. Moving back and forth through the rooms. Plenty of seating if needed. There is one specific puzzle that uses color and could trip up the more extreme color blind. A couple of sound based puzzles but nothing too bad. Once you're upstairs the bathroom is accessible throughout the entire time.

We were able to find street parking but I imagine on a busier day it might not be.

The game master was very friendly and did shake our hands as part of the script which did startle me a little lol

Fun room with lots of puzzles that really rack your brain. Some very unexpected uses of the environment, and a fun finale. The premise of the room pulls you back in time. This is fitting, because the setting is basically as old as the building you’re in. Some things feel old and grimy, and one puzzle was literally broken because someone tampered with the clue? We wasted several minutes on it too. My favorite room at this location is definitely Vanishing Act so do that if you are out of time and can only do one.

A watch had the wrong time on it, which was very important. Someone tampered with it? It’s possible that we could change the time too. Eventually after minutes of frustration, GM called us and told us the watch was wrong.

The building the Black Mountain Escape rooms are built within is such an old timey evocative space in itself that it creates an engaging environment to play games within. I will say though, the premise of Out of Time involves you and your group travelling back in time, but at some point - and I do not think this is a spoiler - but you need to look out the window of the room to find something in the world outside. The world outside is the real world outside. The world outside is not in the past. The world outside is very much in the present. This isn't game-breaking in any sense, but it does slightly dent the work your imagination has been doing to have fun with the premise; which was not a problem we had with another one of Black Mountain Escape's rooms that we played when we next passed through town.

Fun room. This was the most challenging of the three rooms but we were able to finish with just two people and several nudges from the game master to ensure we escaped.

Adored this clever game! Used the old building well while still allowing for high-tech additions! The non-linear puzzles flowed well, allowing for full group involvement! Immersive with excellent props and sets! Play all of the games here! Worth the trip!

Wonderful room and a lot of fun! Unique puzzles and a great theme! The amazement started before even entering the room. Our GM was awesome and really added to the flavor and immersion. Can't wait for the prequel 🤞

It was fun. I enjoyed playing this with my family, but I don’t think it’s as good as some of their other games. Overall fun experience and good game.

This location is an escape room gem. Best in Asheville area after trying the other top-rated ones. Host is passionate and welcoming. The atmosphere for *this* room at least was great. Host's acting was excellent. Story was good and puzzles were fun. A few things in the room felt old and worn out, but everything worked.

This game was enjoyable. Personally, it was probably my least favorite at this location but it was still good. The room was immersive and the puzzles were fun but I felt as if the other rooms had a bit more personality. That being said, I would still recommend this room if you enjoyed the other rooms at this location and are looking for something a bit more challenging in regards to the puzzles!

The puzzles in this game were pretty fun!
This room was larger than I expected and fit in with the story.
The GM was kind and helpful throughout.

It’s cool how they aim to incorporate the building and significant figures into the storyline for each of their rooms.

The level of difficulty could vary based on how many escape rooms you’ve done. This is technically Black Mountain Escape’s hardest room but it’s definitely not as hard as escape rooms at other locations.

There was only one puzzle that didn’t trigger the clue as expected. The game master was accommodating and helped us through the malfunction though.
Kind of, the game master also served as an actor for a small portion of the introduction to the game. There was no live actor in the room with you and they were not there to scare you.
Not at all
Some spaces were a bit crowded and we went up stairs to get to the entrance to the room (I don’t know if there was a more accessible entrance to the room). Some puzzles required visual observation and color.
