From March 2020 to April 2023, The Queen Mary experienced her longest closure since being docked in Long Beach in 1967. Her halls are beckoning you back... The RMS Queen Mary has a long and storied past, being the favorite choice for transatlantic travel from 1936 - 1967 for celebrities, royals, and notable politicians. From 1939 - 1946 she was retrofitted to serve in WWII; being given a camouflage paint scheme she was nicknamed the "Grey Ghost". Since 1967 she has been docked in Long Beach, California. Maintaining her original art deco interiors makes it very easy to picture her early passengers wandering the decks... The Grey Ghost Project's goal is to share her history, while researching and collecting evidence of her guests that may still remain from years passed. Many rumors and myths have been circulated about her ghosts, what if a tragedy doesn't make a ghost...but rather happy memories? For many of her passengers, sailing her would have been some of the best and most celebrated days of their life. Docked in Long Beach, The Queen Mary continues to see many life defining moments, first dates, proposals, and weddings. Could that explain the haunting of a lady in white? Reliving her happiest day, for eternity.
