Escobar: Part 2 (The Final Hour)

It pains me to write this, but sadly this room was quite a disappointment. The first room was so fun and inventive with challenging puzzles. This one feels sloppy and just riding the tailcoat of the success of part one. The puzzles involved more looking for things than critical thinking. When we completed the room, we weren’t even sure that it was over. All of us had a collective reaction of “was that it?” Our DM Tristan was great though! We asked for a couple very small nudges and his hints were perfectly vague!

This room is fun and immersive. Make sure you are physically able to move well in this room. There is ups and downs.

I think I’m in the minority of players who think this follow-up is a little more fun than the original. The setting is just as good as the first, the layered building-style of these rooms always amazes me. Puzzles to me made a little more sense but that can be argued for any escape room. My biggest downside, and one I had with the first room too, is how small some of the details hidden in the rooms are. Our game master is always delighted to give us hints but I would’ve liked more things to be noticeable, or lit, or even give us a flashlight at some point. A dark room is fine if the puzzles involved don’t require sight, but if there’s information I need to see and it’s obstructed just because I don’t have a light, I feel a little cheated. That didn’t ruin the experience though, a lot of puzzles stood out for good.

Enjoyed the room. Looked like we were on the streets of Columbia.

Part 1 is a lot better than this one. This room seems like it was thrown together quickly just to keep the story going. Puzzles were very mediocre at best. 3/4 max in this room.

I liked some of the elements of this room, but I think part 1 was an overall better experience. One of the best things about the rooms at Escape Revolution is the production value.

We played Escobar Part 1 & Escobar Part 2 on the same day. In Part 1, we barely needed help as experienced players (me 60 rooms and him 80 rooms). In Part 2, we had to ask for help for most of the game. The second room had very minimal decor and the clues are placed elsewhere very high and very low. Not ideal for someone with poor vision. For some of the clues, you can only solve it by doing strange things to activate it. You’ll see what I mean in the “XOXO” puzzle. Our game master was definitely frustrated with us as her hints didn’t make much sense to us. So rather than rewording, she just kept repeating the same clue in louder volumes. We were going to book a third game for the same day but after playing Escobar Part 2 and our experience with this game master —— we decided to save it for the future.

Really enjoyed it. Puzzles were fun and the perfect mix of hard yet solvable.

Time starts the moment the door was open. As GM was talking about the room our time was ticking down. So we started almost 7 mins in. GM didn’t mention anything and that did affect our time. Gameplay itself is very barebones but manageable. Some puzzles are oddly specific and wouldn’t make much sense without a hint or specific thought process. And all puzzles are hyper observational instead of critical thinking. Overall it was a fine times, just not as exciting or rewarding as other places

Your time starts as soon as you enter the door. So ask very little questions. The GM did not tell us this, so we were surprised when he the first 15 min mark. The puzzles aren’t the clearest. Lots of vagueness and missing breadcrumbs.
