This Victorian-themed room is based on actual events – a perplexing murder that took place in rural England in the late 1800’s. This was at a time when detectives just started to become a mainstay of any police department. Your goal is to find all the clues hidden within the room, then use your detective skills to solve the case and correctly identify the murderer. Think you’re up for the task?

Hmmm. I love mysteries, and I love escape rooms that are murder mansions. However, this room was a complete mess. Granted, there were only 2 of us for what is considered their hardest room. But I believe it is hard because there is almost no rhyme or reason to how you should approach the over a dozen locks. Every combo, with some of them being super vague, had to be checked for all locks until we got lucky or realized we were wrong. To escape, you also need to correctly solve the mystery and are only given 1 chance to get it right or the murderer gets away. We solved it with seconds to spare, but it was an unsatisfying win. It came down to a choice between 3 suspects who we did not eliminate yet, and we made a good, educated, correct guess. There is a process of mystery-solving that just isn’t present here. The GM, while nice, had no idea why our answer was correct, or why some suspects would be considered incorrect. The set is simple, but works, even if it’s a plain looking Victorian-decorated room. If you do want to do this room, I recommend having a big group to handle the large amount of puzzles, with at least a good note-taker sleuth. Also, try not to look up any spoilers for the case. Good luck, and close the case if you will it.

Technically we got out but we did not solve the murder correctly. Fun twist on a room.

The murder mystery aspect to this game added an additional challenge that creates a lot of pressure that may not be super well integrated into the actual puzzles. Regardless, I really liked that concept, and it isn't something I've seen before, so I personally found the room fun. If you get worried about a lot of pressure, this room might not be for you though.

The room requires a lot of searching so do it throughly. Every time we thought we found everything we soon realized we were still missing parts. In addition to just “escaping” you have to put all your clues together and solve a mystery. This proved too difficult for my group of 3. We used up all of our time escaping that we had no time at the end to do the final analysis and figure out the answer. I think if we had another person we could have had someone dedicated to understanding the story line and putting together all the clues but it really required all 3 of us to keep searching and figuring out all the other puzzles.
