Fate of the Fairytales might be the favorite escape room I have done in the fantasy genre. I have done many that are glorified number lock rooms with whimsical theming. Here, the puzzles are magical, intuitive and tactile. The high tech parts of them make it extremely fun and feel like you are casting spells, mixing potions, battling creatures, etc. it’s not a huge space, but the space they have they make the most of.

Gameplay

This rooms shines here! I love that the puzzles involve magical items. It’s so much more satisfying to use fairytale items, magic wands and potions than a number lock in this kind of room.

Atmosphere

Good lighting and I don’t think it’s a spoiler cuz it’s on their website, but they have an animatronic dragon in the room with you the whole time!

Customer service

HOC customer service is highly known in the community, and always delivers.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

Again, have to stress their attention to detail using props and magic items, it is so satisfying and brings you into the immersive experience.

Story

The room’s story right now is pretty simple, but the owners gave me a sneak peak at the pre-show they are making and it’s

Difficulty

Hard

Some puzzles you can tell are there more for novelty, but it’s very satisfying to do. Some are pretty challenging though.

Game tech

High tech

Like I said. The “magic” in this room is unlike anything I’ve played in Omaha.

Minimum age

Little kids will love this room too much. Lots of neat stuff in here that it may distract the adults, but I’d say 8+

Was anything broken?

No

Live actors

Yes

Kind of? I’m pretty sure the dragon was a live actor talking too us!

Physically active

Somewhat

It’s very accessible, but be prepared to hold a lot of props and items that may require a little bit of strength.

Accessibility

You could definitely put a wheel chair in the room, but some of the props can be rather heavy.

This is the rotating room for House of Conundrum, which often comes with technical bugs. This room was no different, with the technical bugs being game-breaking in some instances. However, the room was still well designed and our game master was great and helped us appropriately when it looked like we were struggling a bit too hard. The room is somewhat linear, with some opportunity for people to work on different things. Overall, not our favorite, but not a bad room and we still had a lot of fun.

Gameplay

It was okay! I wouldn't say the puzzles were very "follow your nose", but still had fun anyways!

Atmosphere

I think the set design was probably the highlight, but being constrained to one (and a half) rooms really limits what can be done.

Story

It was okay, nothing too special I'd say.

Difficulty

Hard

Harder than we initially thought, probably medium for most folks though! We've definitely been out of practice, as there were very obvious clues that we didn't pay attention to!

Game tech

Mechanical

I'd say it's borderline being a high-tech room, but still closer to mechanical. Definitely a step up for House of Conundrum!

Ideal number of players

4

3 is best for most of the room, but there's one puzzle I'm thinking of where 4 would have been ideal.

Was anything broken?

Yes

Not necessarily broken, but one required prop was not very easy to use, and was game-breaking. Even the GM had a lot of difficulty making it work when he came to assist us.

Not at all

There is one part where you need to either sit or crouch on the floor.
