Cactuar
1 escape room
Overall my experience was positive. I think as far as spooky/scary themed escape rooms this one was particularly tame and would be a good entry point for those that may not have done escape rooms like it that are dark in lighting and subject matter. All of the puzzles worked as intended and if you're used to escape rooms and taking in the environment there were very few moments of being unable to figure out what your next step should be. Just be sure to pay attention to the posted labels and signs asking you to not move certain props or furniture and you'll make your way through pretty smoothly. Really my only critique is that aside from little clips of the tape from The Ring on a TV and the final area of the room there isn't much to theme it to said cursed video tape. Scary stuff like creepy rooms and loud noises just happen around you without being tied to Samara or the tape.
Gameplay
Atmosphere
The atmosphere was great. lighting was appropriately spooky and sets were well themed for the atmosphere.
Customer service
The staff was very welcoming and kind. The only critique I have is that our GM was a little bit too helpful. Throughout the experience, we were receiving hints without us asking for any on puzzles we had only recently started pondering.
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
I would definitely give it points for being interesting in terms of atmosphere.
Story
I think the weakest part of the room was the plot. None of it really related to The Ring in the way that you would expect from the movie. The previous victims mentioned at the start do not have any real presence throughout the experience and themed notes stop before you reach the halfway point.
Difficulty
Medium
Puzzles were varied and there wasn't a heavy reliance on padlock/number lock puzzles, which I'm always appreciative of. However none seemed to be particularly complex which works to the favor of doing the room with only two people but once you're in the zone you can definitely breeze right through it so long as the theming and atmosphere doesn't keep you from entering spaces to progress.
Game tech
Mechanical
Many puzzles opened other furniture or parts of the room when solved but a good number of puzzles did seem to rely on rfid sensors which is a welcome change over constantly needing to unlock boxes/cabinets kept closed with padlocks.
Ideal number of players
3
Three is really the max I'd recommend bringing into the room as the lighting is dim and some areas can be more cramped than others.
Scary
Spooky
Some jump scares and nice dim to no lighting that kept the atmosphere appropriately tense and spooky.
Minimum age
12
Was anything broken?
No
Every object worked as intended on our visit. One prop I thought was part of the puzzle that may have needed outside bypass was actually not even the solution. Previous issues with puzzles not working seem to have been addressed by the owners and labeling of parts in the room that shouldn't be moved or messed with I believe have also prevented further damage or wear.
Live actors
Yes
However you can ask for them to not interact with you.
Physically active
Somewhat
There is only one part that requires minor ducking and you will need to travel back and forth from areas.
Accessibility
The game is not particularly accessible for anyone with poor eyesight in low light, but they do allow you to use your phone for light if you need it. The further areas of the room would not be particularly wheelchair friendly. There is one section that could be difficult for those that are hard of hearing, however I believe they would happily work with you to give you the clues over the speakers if you needed assistance. There are no issues for folks with color blindness.
Easy to find location
Yes
Parking
Medium
There is no parking lot for the business, however there is plenty of nearby street parking and some nearby parking lots and garages in short walking distance.
Safety
Yes
