A long time ago, Freya, the goddess of love and war, did something very human - she fell in love with a mortal - a young warrior named Regnar. Their love was pure, but forbidden. As punishment, Freya was cursed to go blind whenever close to Regnar and thus never be able to see her true love ever again. Heartbroken, she sat down by an old fountain deep inside a forest, and cried a thousand tears. Feeling her sorrow, a dwarf blacksmith decided to help. He took a strain of Freya's golden hair and forged it into a magical ring. A ring, powerful enough to break all curses in it’s presence. They decided to hide the ring in the fountain and so this became the one secret place where the two lovers could be together. But the ring was taken.. Now, by a twist of faith perhaps You came across it, and for better or worse, it is now your job restore it to the fountain before it looses it’s magical powers, so that Regnar and Freya may be together once again.

After doing a room at the Littleton location, our GM told us that this was his favorite room of Mystic so we came to check it out. The second we stepped in we were wowed by the set design. All of the tech worked (minus something opening we couldn't hear but our GM alerted us) One of the puzzles required 3 people. There was 3 of us exactly and all of the puzzles were challenging. We didn't need hints to finish and it was just a lot of fun. So beautiful. Lovely story.

Really awesome set design. The room was mostly linear. There were some issues with not setting the room up correctly when we started and one of the puzzles didn’t release once we had solved it. The GM was great and stepped in relatively quickly. There was one puzzle that was way more difficult than it needed to be. By a long shot. And it was pretty difficult to hear over the ambience. I had to “undo” some of the parts of the room to be able hear enough to do other puzzles. Not my favorite, but the set design helps a lot!!

After a couple dozen rooms around the US, this is easily my favorite. It is truly beautiful. It’s challenging but achievable. The ending is very satisfying. The staff is enthusiastic and kind. Even the lounge the room is attached to is charming. We will be hitting up their other rooms next time we are in the area!

Gameplay

This room was full of aesthetically pleasing, interesting, puzzles. No cumbersome locks. I’d say it’s quasi-linear. At any given time there was probably more than one puzzle available to solve so it’s good for groups. But it was never so open-ended that we felt lost. There was a central feature that tied several puzzles together in a cool way. The hints were also well done; they pushed us in the correct direction but didn’t give it away completely. We found the room quite challenging, but all solutions were reasonable; no crazy mental leaps necessary.

Atmosphere

This is easily the most beautiful room I’ve ever done. There was nothing stock about these puzzles & props; they were designed specifically with this room theme in mind. It was highly immersive and lovely.

Customer service

Our GM, Justin, was awesome. We could tell he was very enthusiastic about escape rooms in general and this one in particular. His delivery of the introduction and clues was on point. And he gave us such a good after action review. He answered also sorts of questions about the room, told us what kind of hints they would have given for various puzzles, talked about his own experience the first time in this room, and more. Additionally, the room is entered through by way of The Mystic Lounge. The bartender there was such a sweetheart and she helped us get settled in.

Story

The plot is what drew me to the room initially and the room matches the feel well. I was thinking about it all again the next day.

Accessibility

If at least 2 in your party can’t crawl and exert at least a little arm strength for a few minutes that could be problematic. There are no color puzzles but colors can indicate if you’re correctly solving or not so at least one person able to see full color is helpful.

This was a super fun room! My partner and I were just visiting for the weekend, and this was a great use of our time. There is a lot packed into a fairly small space. The tech is well done. We did it as a team of 2 and there is one puzzle that requires 3 people, so our Game Master was kind enough to help us out. Overall, a really great experience! Plus the fact that there’s a bar right outside is definitely a perk. Thank you Mystic team!

This ended up being our favorite room at this location. We really enjoyed this one from start to finish. The The theme pulled us in right away and the atmosphere did a great job making the world feel immersive. The puzzles were a huge highlight. We had several moments where we ran into things we genuinely hadn’t experienced before, which is always exciting after doing a lot of escape rooms. The tech was really well integrated too and I loved that there were no traditional keys or locks. Everything felt modern, intentional, and fit naturally into the experience. We stayed in a great rhythm through most of the room and always felt like we were uncovering something new. This was one of those rooms where the theme, puzzles, and tech all clicked together really well. Only bummer was after such an awesome experience, we never got a team photo sent over for our memories. Small thing, but after a room this good we definitely would’ve loved having that keepsake.

Of the 22 games we played on our Denver trip, Tears of Freya was my favorite. Amazing set and atmosphere, satisfying puzzles. Two things really stood out to me - the sound design and the prop reactivity. Sound design is often overlooked, and while there are other games that also do a great job, it's rarer than I think it should be. The ambient soundscape, the effects when things trigger, the fullness and presence of a good sound system that wasn't trying to be overwhelming - all of this was great. Prop reactivity at this level is something I rarely see, and can't think of other examples at the moment. Little flourishes of movement and light that weren't absolutely necessary (and I'm sure is why very few companies do this - who has the time?), but were cool and convinced me I was interacting with ancient Norse magic rather than just activating an RFID tag or hall effect sensor.

This was my favorite game of the ones we played in the Denver area. It has a beautiful set with satisfying tactile mechanisms and tech that uses a clever mix of physical movement and careful soundscape to feel like ancient magic. The bones of the space are humble - it's just drop ceiling! - but everything that Mystic has built within the environment sells it, from sets to sound, from lighting to props, everything was beautiful and felt like it belonged

Our GM Sophie was great. She was great both as a storyteller, defining the magic circle and bringing us in, and as an expert, discussing the details of the game after the fact.

This is an absolutely incredible room, the build quality, design, puzzles, and mechanics were all extraordinarily well done and well integrated with the theme and plotline. Beautiful and satisfying combination of tactile and high tech. Justin was a fantastic GM, he came in special and early for us after I booked the wrong day and was a delight to chat with about the room and other rooms. We've done almost 100 escape rooms and this may have been the best!

Some minor technical issues at the start that were quickly fixed by the GM. Then the puzzles were fun and cool, even though we had a large chaotic group! One puzzle towards the end was taunting us even though the solution required a few prerequisites, some of us got stuck trying to solve/guess it, which felt not great. Takes it down from amazing, which it is, down to just "good" for our group.
