The Benefactor's Test

We played The Benefactor's Test and had a great time. The heist theme has some clever twists that set it apart from other rooms we've done. Our game master was also one of the creators, and it showed. He was funny and clearly invested in giving us a good experience. Hint delivery comes through an old fashioned phone mounted on the wall, which fits the theme nicely. It's one room, but the puzzles are creative and the props feel high quality. This is my favorite single room escape game and lands in my top 3 favorites of all time. Solid experience overall and we'd go back for their next room. Bookings are private, so it's just your group. We did it with 2 and it worked great.

A well thought out room with good theming and moderate use of technology. Some creative puzzles and unique interactions. The clue-giving method was unique and fun, although a couple of times it made us feel we were at risk of not escaping on time when we actually were ahead of schedule. The staff was fantastically friendly and enthusiastic and we will definitely return to see their next room when it opens! Would rate the difficulty as medium - our group of 4 seasoned escapers exited in 38/60 minutes with 0 clues. The flow was pretty tight, but still not quite linear so multiple people could occasionally work on different things at the same time. No teamwork is needed so this is suitable even for “groups” of 1.

Excellent production values and set design. This room punches well above what you'd expect. The whole operation is run by a small group of owners who also designed and built the room, and their passion for escape rooms is evident in every detail. The GM kicks off the experience in character and in costume, setting up the story before you even touch a puzzle. Even when a small technical issue came up mid-game, he stayed in character and kept the immersion intact. That kind of commitment to the experience is rare. Puzzle design is genuinely impressive. Mostly technical and mechanical solves, very few traditional locks, and the ones that exist make sense in the world of the room. You're not hunting for four-digit codes to feed into a wall of padlocks. This is the kind of puzzle design that reminds me why I got into escape rooms in the first place. The room is technically a single space, but puzzles unfold in layers that make it feel much bigger than it is. I didn't miss the "new room reveal" feeling at all, which says a lot about how well the progression is designed. Not strictly linear. Multiple threads can be worked simultaneously, so it scales well for larger groups. We escaped as a duo with about 5 minutes left. Difficulty felt well-calibrated: challenging without being punishing. Hints delivered via an in-room phone. The theme is a training mission for a heist, with the actual heist planned as a second room. Can't wait. Enthusiasts: make the drive to Bow, NH for this one. It's not a location you'd stumble on, but it's absolutely worth seeking out. The venue also has a board game room with a big library of games available to play (including TTRPGs) for a small fee, plus games for sale, so you can easily make a day of it.

For a new venue, with it's first room, and as a single room escape, I was genuinely impressed with their design choices both for immersion and puzzle design, with keeping a storyline together. This room will be a prequel to the one being built and I'm confident our group will be back for the next one.

Pay Day Escapes absolutely blew us away. We’ve completed over 100 escape rooms across New England, and this one instantly jumped into our top 3. The level of immersion, set design, and puzzle creativity is top-tier from start to finish. There are multiple things to be working on so it’s not linear which gives it an awesome feel. The puzzles are challenging but fair, flowing together in a way that keeps the whole group locked in and excited. Nothing feels random or filler; everything is intentional and enhances the story. On top of that, the staff is welcoming, energetic, and clearly passionate about creating unforgettable experiences. If you’re an escape room veteran or even a first-timer, Pay Day Escapes is a must-do. It stands out not just in New England, but among the best rooms we’ve ever played. Highly recommended. On top of the escape room, they also have an amazing game space available to rent, filled with board games you can try out. It’s the perfect place to hang out before or after your game, or even host a small event.

Game masters are passionate about the game. Great story with fun and unique gameplay. Good mix of physical locks and tech! Can’t wait for the next room!
