This beautiful Chinese themed room had amazing props, theming and atmosphere. Although its puzzles weren’t as strong as the theming, this was overall a great room. P.S. We came second on the leaderboard!

Absolutely gorgeous room with quality props and tech! We did find some of the clues/puzzles a little confusing in terms of connection, signposting, and flow, but we lucked out and fluked a few things to finish as one of the fastest teams with 15+ mins to go.

This escape room was an absolute delight and an unforgettable experience! From the moment we stepped inside, we were completely captivated by the incredibly immersive set. It truly felt like we had been transported back in time to the vibrant and bustling streets of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the early 20th century. The attention to detail was remarkable, and every corner of the room was filled with authentic elements that enhanced the overall atmosphere and made the adventure feel so real. The escape room offered a fantastic blend of low-fi and high-tech puzzles, each one more intriguing than the last. The variety kept us on our toes and added an exciting layer of challenge to the experience. There were even a few delightful surprises along the way that kept us guessing and added to the fun. The puzzles were well-designed, logical, and flowed seamlessly, creating a sense of progression and accomplishment as we solved each one. While the experience was thoroughly enjoyable, we felt that a little more direction in the room could have helped us connect a few of the puzzles more easily. However, this minor detail did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the escape room. The friendly and helpful staff were always available to provide hints and guidance when needed, ensuring that we never felt stuck or frustrated. In conclusion, this escape room was a fantastic escape from reality, offering a perfect mix of adventure, challenge, and fun. It’s an experience we would highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and entertaining way to spend an afternoon or evening. We can’t wait to return and see what other exciting adventures await us!

From our initial moments in ‘Kidnapped’, it became apparent that Urban Escapade is establishing a new escape room business that prides itself on immersive, high-quality sets. The ensuing environmental design was a delight to explore. While some puzzles were fun, other elements felt sparsely connected and challenging to solve without hints in the right direction. Similarly, some props seemed important to piece together, but at the conclusion of the experience felt superfluous. Another key prop served dual roles as an in-world cluing system and as a vehicle for lore, but it was challenging, even with symbols indicating hints, to make meaningful details out of the object without it feeling like an investment of time. Coupled with puzzles that could be interpreted in multiple ways, it felt as if we were relying on this object for more hints than were actually present in it. I wonder how the experience might evolve if this were removed entirely. For a first design, ‘Kidnapped’ is excitingly ambitious and it serves as a bold launch from which two new rooms are set to follow. Having talked to players who experienced ‘Kidnapped’ in the first few weeks of opening, I have heard that the designers have made changes to the experience for the better. I am optimistic that, with further puzzle iteration, this experience could be a highlight in the already impressive Sydney escape room market. The sets already are!

First off, the set design was awesome. The detailing throughout the room is really well done, and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into creating the atmosphere. Considering Urban Escapade had only been open for two weeks when we played, the foundation they’ve built is genuinely impressive. At a base level, the room is really cool. There’s a strong theme, good immersion, and a nice mix of high-tech elements and classic padlocks used in the right places. The team has clearly put effort into making the environment feel cohesive and engaging. My partner and I did find it quite challenging. We needed a few nudges in the right direction and sometimes struggled to know exactly what we were looking for. That may partly come down to our own lapse in skills on the day, but we also felt that some refinement in puzzle direction and flow could elevate the experience significantly. The puzzles themselves weren’t logically difficult, it was more about identifying where to focus. With a few adjustments and fine-tuning, this room has serious potential to be excellent. The bones are absolutely there. We’re excited to see how it evolves as the team continues to polish it. We’re giving this room a ❤️ with the hopes that, with a few minor tweaks, it becomes something truly exceptional.
