The Cabin is a very solid room where players are tasked with finding the identity of a serial killer. As with most of Cipher's rooms, the puzzle flowed very well and allowed players to split up and solve multiple puzzles at the same time. It is apparent which answer is needed for each lock. The last puzzle of the room was a nice touch and I always like when puzzles are personalised. The set design also added to the experience with all the wall being built out of decrepit planks and felt like an actual cabin. Definitely the best of the three rooms at the Newtown venue.

The Cabin at The Cipher Room is a brilliant, highly cohesive room that perfectly balances a creepy, morbid atmosphere without leaning into outright horror or jump scares. The set design is incredibly immersive, making you truly feel like a detective investigating a dark, abandoned serial killer hideout. What really makes this room shine is the sheer variety and flow of the puzzles. Itโ€™s a smorgasbord of tactile, physical, and search-based mechanical puzzles that keep the entire team engaged with very little downtime. While the difficulty leans toward medium and might feel a bit straightforward for highly experienced enthusiasts, the brilliant execution keeps the momentum high from start to finish. The story flows seamlessly alongside the puzzles and culminates in a clever, mind-bending finale that includes a really fun, personalized touch. To top it off, the customer service and Game Masters are enthusiastic and attentive, adding to the overall great experience. Itโ€™s an ideal room for a group of 2 to 4 players looking for a dark, puzzle-dense mystery that relies on satisfying mechanical tech rather than flashy screens. Highly recommended!

Gameplay

It was a fun experience. Despite it being linear, it isn't completely linear (without providing spoilers).

Atmosphere

Throughout the game, we felt we were in a cabin due to the furniture, decor, lighting and audio.

Customer service

GM provided their insights at the post-game debrief and there were some "aah" moments followed by laugher as we may have forgotten some common sense because we tend to overthink some puzzles.

Story

The story provided the players a good "setting of the scene". There's a reveal which had me confused but a nice touch.

Really great room. Did it in a group of 2, if you werenโ€™t experienced you may be better to do it in a bit bigger group as it had lots of challenging but fun puzzles to solve. Super immersive and set up looked exactly like a creepy cabin. The story line had great flow and exciting twists. Our games master, Liam, was super fun and helpful. Makes me keen to do all the rooms at Cipher.

A really cohesive room, everything was on theme and puzzles flowed one to the next. The puzzles were on the easier side, all mechanical, but there was very little downtime.

Another impressive room by Cipher, with a clever and personal ending. A smorgasbord of puzzles could be found in this room- from searching to physical to tactile - thereโ€™s something for everyone. If youโ€™re looking for horror/scary you wonโ€™t find it in this room. Itโ€™s only spooky/creepy in theme (just the way I like it though!!!)

โ€˜The Cabinโ€™ is a thoroughly enjoyable escape room with a wonderful collection of puzzles. Known for their stunning set design, The Cipher Room cleverly maximise their use of the space within โ€˜The Cabinโ€™s footprint. It truly feels as though you are exploring a rustic cabin, complete with worn-down wooden flooring and rusting corrugated iron walls and roof. โ€˜The Cabinโ€™ is only spooky in theme โ€” the experience itself isnโ€™t scary or startling in any way. With a few surprising twists and turns along the way, the puzzle flow in โ€˜The Cabinโ€™ was a standout. It felt as though we always knew which puzzle to tackle next and that flow was incredibly satisfying. An abandoned cabin โ€” or one belonging to a serial killer โ€” isnโ€™t an uncommon escape room theme, but The Cipher Room has delivered the best example Iโ€™ve experienced to date.
