Cute storybook/fairytale room. I think our team overthought a few of the puzzles but we enjoyed the effects.

I have done red door all over the US. Some are better than others. This location lacks a lot. I have done all but one of their games here and the games themselves lack originality

Poor game mastering moved this down from a decent room to a bad room. It’s a cute but worn down set, decent tech, a few really cool moments. Unfortunately we wasted 20 minutes (not exaggerating) asking for a hint, getting hints of things we already did / no responses, only to find out we didn’t have a key item due to a previous malfunction. Instead of acknowledging the mistakes, it was a hint of “you must have missed…” with the thing that never happened. In the end a different person came to congratulate us and kept saying “you had fun right?” And did apologize once I explained the issue. Even without this part, the game was wayyy too hot, required some outside knowledge, and had at least one thing I would consider a true red herring.

Full prop didn’t work. Made us behind and was not handled well.

Our experience was completely ruined by an incompetent game master. We needed four items to complete a puzzle early on and could only find 3 of them. We asked for a hint but the hint that was given (they do these annoying preset hints rather than having a real person talk to you) was for how to do the puzzle and not where the last hidden thing we needed was. We kept looking for it and trying to alert the person for a better hint but it took I ekid you not 10 minutes before we got the appropriate hint. Then of course we already knew how to solve it because we had been given the wrong hint already. Then we were behind in the room because of the game masters error that lasted 10 minutes so she just kept giving us hint after hint that we didn’t ask for to try to catch us up. So we didn’t even get a chance to look at the puzzles before we were being given answers. It was so frustrating and ridiculous. I’ve done tons of games but have never had trouble finishing and definitely never had this much issue with a hint system/game master before

This room was a lot of fun. Did this as a command event and had a group of 7 where only 2 of us had previously done an escape room. I really loved the overall atmosphere and design of the rooms with all the puzzles working as designed and being solvable with a bit of thinking. It was a good experience for newbie players while still providing a challenge for experienced players. Definitely my favorite room at Red Door San Diego and one that I would recommend for anyone who is looking to do something with a larger group as there are several puzzles you can split up between.
All the puzzles and gameplay flowed really well. The only puzzle we had issues with was near the end and it was simply due to the sequence being very confusing.
We came here as a group of 35+. The staff was super welcoming and attentive of our group and ensured we were all comfortably waiting in a large staff room while each escape room team went to do their room. Even after we were all done they were courteous and not pushy or rushing despite the late hour. One of the best staff experiences I've ever had, especially for having such a large group. As for the GM, ours was awesome! They were extremely patient and quickly caught onto the fact that we misidentified an item, making it so that we didn't guess it's correct usage at first. They happily gave us helpful hints and nudged us if they saw something wrong.

There are a lot of puzzles spread out between several rooms and a few were quite tricky.
Mechanical
It did have several puzzles that use lighting and sensors. This room has a fairly healthy mix of puzzles that use sensors, magnets, and lighting.

I can easily see this being done with a group of 4 but it is a fairly large area with several puzzles. I don't think there were many times where we had anyone standing around waiting for a puzzle.

While there were puzzles were simple enough for younger minds, I wouldn't think this room is overall doable for kids as later puzzles can get quite difficult.

This experience had several large rooms and even the room where you use a small passage had a regular sized door that you could use once at least one person got in to unlock it. It definitely utilized colored lights and sounds often so I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with a hearing disability or color blindness.

I have mixed feelings about this room. I didn't like it, but also didn't dislike it. Morty needs a fourth rating choice for "meh..." We did not escape. We weren't even close. So take my review with a grain of salt. This was my 17th game (12W - 5L) so I still consider myself a novice. I played with two other adults with similar statistics. We have been (obsessively) playing escape rooms every day over the Christmas break and had nine wins going into this game. I consider this a hard room because several of the puzzles didn't make sense to us, we ended up asking for several hints, and still failed. We played The Gift and Fair Game at this location later today and escaped from those.
The set design was pretty but I didn't like some of the puzzles and disliked having to backtrack to previous rooms.
The room was pretty
The GM was nice & outgoing at the beginning but (maybe I'm reading my own disappointment into this) I felt he was frustrated with us during & after the game.

Some of the tasks were not intuitive to me and one required prior knowledge about something I don't know much about. The GM posted a hint on the screen when he saw us arguing about it.
I think it was mixed. Maybe a little more mechanical.

I'm not sure. We were not even close to finishing but the puzzles we completed seemed to be in working order.

Movement between rooms is necessary, one puzzle definitely requires significant dexterity, crawling and kneeling is required.
hearing, vision, and color are necessary. There is one part when we had to get on the ground, but I think there is a way around it, if needed.

In Fashion Valley Mall with lots of covered parking. The Green trolley has a station within walking distance of the business too.
Easy
Since we signed up for three rooms today (Once Upon A Time, The Gift, Fair Game), we brought our dog and left her in the car during the games. It was great that the mall has covered parking. There were several grassy areas for us to take her out too. And of course the food court for between games.

110% would recommend this. It was clever, cute, and a bit challenging. If you’re a fan of fairy tales or Disney and want to get your escape room, fix on at the same time, this is definitely for you. If you don’t know anything about fairytales, this is still for you. I cannot say enough great things about not only this room, but the staff.

This was one of my favorite, if not my favorite escape room I’ve ever done. It’s not on the super hard side but it’s still challenging and the puzzles are very fun! The room has such a magical feel to it! It was like Disney mixed with Harry Potter and more! I’m pretty sure this will always be my favorite room and I would love to do this room again in the future just for the atmosphere (or if they change the puzzles one day).
