"The sanatorium is no longer used. From what I've read, it was used for both the mentally and the physically impaired and the living conditions in that place were truly horrendous. The strange thing is the other day I was passing by, I swear I think I heard someone screaming from the inside. I surely must have been mistaken though because it was closed down long ago." - Excerpt from the diary of Professor Nathan Jones

Great set design, part of an overall story that connects all rooms at lockhill. We played in day mode but for those into more horror experiences, night mode should be right up your alley. Would have hearted but room was uncomfortably hot at times.
Staff was a highlight for sure. Great treatment overall

Pretty bog standard asylum room but overall story sets it a little apart

Scary to spooky without live actors. Definitely would be upgraded to the scariest with live actors

We played without live actors, but can be played with live actors if wanted

We did speak to the gm and there are some work arounds but this room definitely was one of the more active rooms I've ever done, and that was without any live actors (day mode)
There are ways the GM can accommodate some of the impairment issues but there are definitely some issues in the base experience. The gm was very accommodating and had clearly thought through the accessibility aspects of the room, but the room could definitely be tough for some with more severe needs

We did midnight mode! What we experienced in that room it is difficult to describe! It was very scary we felt we are in the horror movie! Great set and interesting puzzles staff was very helpful and friendly, we enjoyed it more than chapel & catacombs. If you don’t like horror movies you would not enjoy to be constantly scared 😱 but we loved it 🖤

We played on Midnight mode (both horror and puzzles enabled), which I would highly recommend if you're an enthusiast who wants the full experience. Newer players might want to opt for the less stressful Day version (puzzles only), while haunt fans might appreciate the simpler Night version (horror with very simple puzzles). This was the only game (out of ~20) on our Athens tour where I had a moment (early on, shortly after we had made our way into the sanatorium and had done a tiny bit of exploration) of "Oh God, this is terrifying, get me out". I'm glad I stuck with it, though - this is definitely type 2 fun. The set is fantastic - large, atmospheric, and spooky. That's before the monsters and fog arrive to kick things up to the next level. The intense fog also means the GMs can't necessarily visually monitor players - there's an alternate means to contact them that becomes available pretty early on, but players have to be proactive. The game was extremely tense, which of course made it harder to focus on and solve puzzles. Even more so than many Athens games, they really like their fog machines - there were times I could barely see my hands. I kind of wish I had brought a mask, because I don't know how healthy the fog is to breathe. I should note some safety problems. The timeout room (where you get put if you're caught by a monster) is somewhat cramped and physically locked from the outside; if a fire happened, it would be bad. At one point in the game, one of my teammates was fleeing from a monster and injured himself by running into a door (it was very foggy and he thought he was further down the hallway than he actually was) - nothing major, just a small cut above his eye, but he did have to call the GM and get taken out of the game to get patched up. We played in English with no problems.

Actors were a big addition to the game, it would have been much less tense without them.

We did not love this room. We played in day mode in order to experience more puzzles because there are so many horror experiences in Athens. Since day mode didn't have live actors, I didn't experience it, but I can imagine that it's really frustrating to solve puzzles when you have to move between rooms while avoiding actors. In day mode, the flow wasn't great. There's also a good chance that you're going to get wet which I did not appreciate. We have really mixed emotions about this room, but I think it disappointed us the most that staff wasn't nearly as welcoming as they've been at other escape rooms. For us, talking to the actors, owners, and employees is a huge part of the experience.

Not sure what to think about this game. The atmosphere was really good (though the fog made much of the trick), in the beginning it was scary a lot. But after some time it became frustrating. Some of the puzzles were hard to solve because of a bad game design (some clues not visible, some puzzles on the trial and error basis) and hint mechanics was also not working the best way. It has innovative game mechanic idea of acting, though after some time it's not scary anymore but mostly frustrating. But I hated that at one point of the game (no matter how quick you were before) you are given limited time to solve known number of puzzles without much chance to solve them all. And when the time is up, you are basically at the end of the game. So you can finish your game with some 30 minutes left of the time you paid for without having opportunity to solve many puzzles you've seen in the game. Maybe it's better to try other mode then midnight one.

We played midnight mode and it was the scariest thing we did that year bar none. Had little nightmares for a month. Would recommend 👍👍
