"This is the only place of worship in Lockhill. Even though it is supposed to be a place of peace and quiet, my skin crawls whenever I go near it. Maybe its just the catacombs next to it, or maybe its something else..." - Excerpt from the diary of Professor Nathan Jones

9.9/10 The hype is real! The rumors are true! Chapel & Catacombs is absolutely one of the best escape rooms ever created. The incredible originality, it’s sheer size, the production, the interactions, the puzzles, the story, and the overall experience will leave you mesmerized for days to come. Every puzzles was exciting and each new section of the room was astonishing. When you think the room couldn’t be any bigger, it gets even bigger! This room is terrifying. You must absolutely play with a group of four. Not only for certain areas, but because you will need as much moral support you can get. What’s keeping it from being a perfect 10? Unfortunately I can’t say for I don’t want to give a single detail away, for you should go into this room knowing as little as possible. Chapel & Catacombs is rightfully #3 on TERPECA, but it deserves higher.

This game is absolutley mind blowing. The size and scope of the set is unprecedented. When I say set - I mean set. To call this an escape room would be a joke. The detail and build quality is par none. And it is MASSIVE. The story is elaborate and movie-length. The actors are very well incorporated and perform their roles expertly. There is one point in the game early one with a scene involving an actor that was literally jaw dropping. The timing and choreography of the actors and all their placement to ensure the game moves forward is so well thought out. The game starts before you even 'arrive' at the chapel. It is a technique of building up the game experience I've only seen so far in a couple of games but definitely saw first in Athens. There is no interaction with GMs or staff perse, the game begins as soon as you enter the building. It really gives you a feeling of immersion and allows you to get into the game without your mind being pulled out by the real world. This game is #*$&$ing scary as @&$! We chose the highest level of fright which was more than we could handle - it slowed us down and we were short a bit to finish the game - but worth it !!! I wish we had made it to the final set though because it is an incredible finale. Anyways, worth the fear factor. They have the most creative ways to build tension and few games have been nearly as scary since playing that game. We were three experienced players and I would say it was tough. Your mind isn't thinking clearly when you are stressed and you will have less team to support you in parts which is an added stress. The puzzles are not terribly challenging which is appropriate for the scare level but I will say the puzzles at the end were harder for us so save some energy for the final lap! It's a long game try to keep track of your time and pace your progress. If you don't like scary games go to the bathroom first but you must try it !!!!

One of the characters told my boyfriend he is beautiful, touched his leg repeatedly, told him to divorce me, followed him into the restroom, and asked if he needs help in the restroom. All of us were uncomfortable with this unusual behavior. Another one of my friends who had played expressed that she had injured herself significantly while playing, & stated she no longer wished to participate. Despite boundary-setting, one of the characters repeatedly struck their weapon on either side of her. I had several other friends who had negative experiences at this location for various reasons as well. On a positive note, the set design was impressive & the gentleman acted perfectly.

Awesome game, the actors did an amazing job and the experience was really memorable. We played just two people. It was scary but also really fun. The immersive setting was unbelievable.
The interactions were exciting, the puzzles were simple but we were quite distracted :O

This is an absolute world class immersive experience that also offered enough gaming to also be a fun escape experience. The sets will blow your mind. I really felt like I was a part of the story and in this entire world that the creators introduced. There are a lot of actors in the game that bring the village to life and offer beautiful scenes with a good amount of chasing that balanced nicely between being playful and scary. I was "captured," something they warn you up front about, and the individual experience was very very special. I can't recommend this enough. If you can only play one game in Athens, this should be it.

This is an unbelievable experience. As others have said, it is definitely more of an experience than a typical escape room. If you go into it expecting lots of well lit puzzles you’ll be disappointed. Go into it with an open mind and try and enjoy what unfolds before you. You won’t have any choice but to be fully immersed in the story. You can’t visit Athens and not experience this game - it is an absolute must-play. If you are of a more nervous disposition you have a panic button and an option to tone down the experience if you need to, I thought about it a couple of times but I’m glad that we pushed on and completed it, albeit slowly, in full game mode. What the team have created and execute here is spectacular, I don’t think that there is anything on this level in the UK.
This experience is just that - simple puzzles within a hugely atmospheric and cinematic setting. There were several times that we weren’t sure what to do, as the adrenaline and constant feeling of being on edge gets in the way of logical thought, but were given several helpful nudges by the staff, who stayed in character the whole time.
The size and scale of the set is unbelievable - it just goes on and on and on, on multiple levels. I was expecting something big before we visited but this was something else. The special effects, acting and storytelling were spectacular. Very clever use of lighting to aid movement.
The staff remain in character throughout and are fantastic - great actors but also very caring and attentive. They make it clear that the experience can be adapted at any point during the experience, more or fewer scares, remove the actor element, panic button. At one point we asked for less strobe light as it irritates my husband and they instantly adapted the game. This was the best example of immersive hosting I have seen, they were fantastic.

The immersion begins from the moment you press the buzzer. What they have built across two floors is unbelievable. I have never played anything like this before.
This experience was seamless. Cut scenes, scares, exploration and puzzles were integrated perfectly. This game is meant to be the final part of the LOCKHILL series - you are supposed to play the other games first but it doesn’t matter if you haven’t. We played the Voodoo shop first so had an idea of the story we were part of, but the introduction to this game fills in all of the necessary background that you need.

The puzzles weren’t difficult, or at least wouldn’t be in a well lit, quiet space, with no fear of being found. The darkness and constant heightened sense of being on adrenaline and high alert make all logic and common sense fly out of the window.

We played as a two. You WILL be separated so a larger group would be useful. Too many and you may struggle in some of the smaller spaces.
Scary
Scary and jumpy rather than horror. Some very effective jump scares - they got me at least 6 times.

Yes - the GM are part of your game right from the start. There are actors at several points - to provide cut scene information to move the story along, to provide help and assistance, and to scare the pants off you.

Lots of movement, some stairs, ladders, crawling, hiding. You aren’t supposed to run but you will.
A puzzle relies on colour. The dim lighting would make it difficult for vision impaired people. Not suitable for wheelchair users. People with reduced mobility, I’m sure the game could be adapted.

Very close to a tram stop.
We got the tram.

One of a kind experience. Less of a traditional escape room and more of a “mystery/don’t get caught” experience. Loads of fun but fatiguing too.

Great story. Non-stop intensity. Crazy experience!
The puzzles themselves are not terribly difficult. Just factor in darkness, noise and the fear obstacles and it makes it tougher.

Seriously one of the greatest rooms if not the greatest we have ever done. Best in class at design, immersive use of actors and props. Very fun. If you do only one escape room in Athens, I would strongly consider this one
