60 to Escape - Schaumburg
Escape room
IRL
Rating: 4.5/5 - Currently the top ranked room in Chicago area, and I get why since they do some unique things Pros: β Awesome animatronic character with an interesting personality β Lots of funny moments β Super nostalgic β Lots of easter eggs for their other games β Great looking, high quality set with good audio/lighting effects β Multiple rooms to explore with a cool transition between areas β Tons of tech with only 1 padlock β Decent puzzle variety with many tactile interactions β Very linear which I like, especially for smaller groups β Friendly and helpful GM Could be better: β A couple puzzles that we had issues with but other groups may not have the same trouble. They were not broken, they just weren't intuitive for our team. It's very playable with two players, I'd recommend 2-3 because there are some smaller spaces. My team of 2 finished with more than 10 min left, it is on the easier side. UPDATE: My ranking of 60 to Escape rooms (all locations) so far starting with my favorite. 1. Lockbuster Video β€οΈ 2. Cheesie's Pizza Party β€οΈ 3. Invasion β€οΈ 4. Mystery Manor β€οΈ 5. Hidden Temple β€οΈ 6. Blast From The Past π 7. Jurassic Outpost π 8. Arctic Expedition π 9. Magic Heist π
Ghost Town
Countdown Games
Escape room
IRL
Rating 4.5/5 - My favorite at Countdown with a fantastic, climactic ending Here's why I loved this room: -That ending, WOW, one of them most exciting and unique experiences I've had in an escape room even after 150+ rooms -Puzzles were very fun and felt appropriate to the wild west setting -A lot of interesting and unique tech that was made to fit the theme, only a few padlocks mixed in -Set was immersive and looked great -Multiple areas/rooms to explore -A lot of cool reveals and fun interactions -Friendly and helpful GM -This an absolute must-play, we drove 3 hours to play at Countdown and this room (and Mansion) made the trip worth it. I'd recommend 4 players, my team of 5 completed it with 20 minutes left, I wish the room was longer. At least one person will need to climb stairs and crawl. My ranking of the rooms here I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Ghost Town - Rating: 4.5/5 2. Murder Mansion - Rating: 4/5 3. The Pirate Ship - Rating: 4/5 4. Prison Break - Rating: 3.5/5 5. Time Machine - Rating: 3.5/5 6. The Scary One - Rating: 3.5/5 7. Abduction - Rating: 3.5/5 8. Shock & Awe - Rating: 3/5

Rating 4/5 - Beautiful, high tech room with well deserved praise Pros: -One particular room looked fantastic, I've yet to see someone do something like that before in an escape room, and they did it very well -Some cool reveals -Set looked great and well decorated from floor to ceiling -Great use of tech and lighting with minimal use of locks -Multiple rooms to explore -Fun puzzles and props -Interesting narrative and that's more than just escaping -Friendly and helpful GM Mixed feelings: -The maze puzzle was too long and since it can be completed by only 1-2 people, most of us were just standing around watching -There is a math puzzle that Iβm not a fan of -Ending felt a bit anti-climactic after the prior cool reveals Cons: -No writing pad provided and many of the puzzles are easier if you take notes. The owners says they don't provide markers due to vandalism, but many other escape rooms provide inexpensive electronic Boogie Boards to solve that problem. Taking notes on your phone is not a good substitute for something to write with. I'd recommend 4-5 players. There are stairs and a crawling portion but not everyone will need to do them. My ranking of the rooms here I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Ghost Town - Rating: 4.5/5 2. Murder Mansion - Rating: 4/5 3. The Pirate Ship - Rating: 4/5 4. Prison Break - Rating: 3.5/5 5. Vanished
Escape From St. Louis
Escape room
IRL
Rating: 4/5 - I played this just based on the great Morty rating and it lived up to expectations. Here's why I enjoyed it: -Beautiful set with a lot of interesting props and set pieces, it's decorated floor to ceiling. -It's a bit on the smaller side but still had more than a single room to explore and they made good use of the vertical space. -Fun variety puzzles with a mix of padlocks, electronics, and physical manipulation -Good use of tech built into the set including dramatic lighting, audio, and video -Detailed narrative with multiple story paths -The owner is an enthusiast and was super friendly and helpful whenever I needed a nudge I played this room solo (paid for 2) and finished with time to spare, but I'd recommend a smaller group of enthusiasts like 2-3. It would be a bit harder for beginners. There is a spooky theme, but there are no jump scares.
Lost Souls
Boxed In Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
Rating: 4/5 - Another fantastic game from Boxed In, it was super creepy and atmospheric, this small town company is doing great things. The set was very immersive, the church looked appropriately weathered and old, I enjoyed exploring the multiple areas. The puzzles were fun, tactile, and on theme, it was mostly tech with a couple of padlocks, but the locks felt old which fit the theme (no bright colored letter locks). There were at least a couple things I've never done before even after 150+ rooms. I liked the spooky narrative that had a satisfying ending, the room does have at least 1 minor, tech based jump scare but it's not bad and definitely would not call it scary overall. The room is dark but they provided multiple flashlights. Overall, the rooms here are a must-play if you are in St. Louis and worth driving at least couple hours. I also met the owners and they were so friendly! I played this one solo (paid for 2) and got out with time to spare, but recommend a team of 2-4 enthusiasts. Between this, Sasquatch, and 90s Nostalgia it's hard to pick a favorite. Sasquatch has easier puzzles and the set had cooler reveals. The 90s room has more enjoyable references and a more fun story that made you feel like a kid again. Lost Souls is more atmospheric with cooler tech, but it's harder and spookier (which can be good or bad depending on what you want).
The Pirate Ship
Countdown Games
Escape room
IRL
Rating 4/5 - Huge pirate ship with a lot of tech! Here's why I enjoyed this room: -The pirate ship set was surprisingly large and looked so cool, there were even weather effects to make it more immersive. -Multiple areas and levels to explore, at least 1 person will need to climb a ladder. -Puzzles were mostly fun and fit the theme (though not all were great). -It was a mix of mechanical interactions and lots of tech, there was only a single padlock and it looked appropriate to the time period. -Ending was enjoyable, fairly climactic, and was a good opportunity for teamwork. -The GM was also friendly and helpful. The only issue for me is that they do not provide a writing pad so you have to use your phone. I played this room solo and it's doable but I'd recommend 2-4. March 2025 Update: My ranking of the rooms here I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Ghost Town - Rating: 4.5/5 2. Murder Mansion - Rating: 4/5 3. The Pirate Ship - Rating: 4/5 4. Prison Break - Rating: 3.5/5 5. Time Machine - Rating: 3.5/5 6. The Scary One - Rating: 3.5/5 7. Abduction - Rating: 3.5/5 8. Shock & Awe - Rating: 3/5
Barrel of Lies
Mission: Breakout Lafayette
Escape room
IRL
Rating: 4/5 - Surprisingly fun! A standout room in greater Lafayette. Here's why I enjoyed it so much: -Set was immersive with lots of details and customized props, everything was well decorated from floor to ceiling -Puzzles were fun, varied, had good flow, and they all fit the theme -Cool use of LED lighting -Lots of tech based puzzles mixed with a few padlocks -There was a clear goal with some funny moments -The GM comes into the room briefly as a character and it made us laugh -More than 1 room -Difficulty felt about right for our group, not overly easy or hard, though I wish the room was a bit longer -The GM was helpful when needed, we also talked to the owner who is very friendly I'd recommend a team of 2-4 players. My ranking of the rooms I've played here starting with my favorite. 1. Barrel of Lies 2. Olympus 3. The Trials of Oz (only good for 1-2 players) 4. Sherlock vs. The Ripper 5. Masquerade Manor

Wonderful blend of VR, escape rooms, and James Bond with a lot of humor mixed in. It's one of my favorite VR games for my Meta Quest.
Curse of the Hidden Temple
Team Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
Rating: 4/5 Fun room with lots of tech and a quality set. I liked the puzzles, they were not too easy or hard and the room flowed well with some hidden surprises. Everything was pretty tactile with many electronic triggers and minimal padlocks. The theming was strong and there was more than a single room to explore. The GM/manager was also very friendly and helpful. I'd recommend 2-4 players. Between this and the Candy Factory, both are good. Just pick the theme you like more.
Ghost Light
MyssTic Rooms
Escape room
IRL
Rating: 4.5/5 - Great game, very theatrical with interesting narrative and great use of lighting Here's the reasons I enjoyed this room: -The set is immersive and has all the right vibes for being set backstage in a theater. -All the props feel appropriate for the time period. -It is a good amount of tech that fits the theme, some padlocks and keys but they don't look out of place in the setting. -The progression from area to area flowed well. -Strong narrative with a theatrical ending that's satisfying. -Considering the name of the room, the use of lighting really added to the experience. -A couple of fun surprises. -Puzzles were good and varied. -The GM was helpful and friendly. -The difficulty felt right for our team of 2 enthusiasts, I would not recommend more than 3-4 people since the room is kind of linear. Room for improvement: -Unfortunately the set is older and one of the floorboards came off when one of us stepped on it. -One interesting mechanical set piece was no longer functioning, so it was disabled and bypassed electronically. I think I preferred The Bird over Ghost Light, but I liked both for different reasons. Bird had better tech, more elaborate set/props, and more fun and layered puzzles. In Ghost Light I preferred the narrative, more spacious set, progression from room to room, and more theatrical ending.
