Museum Escape [Immersive Experience]Rijksmuseum Van Oudheden [National Museum of Antiquities]Escape roomPop upMuseum Escape at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden was a 3-hour experience that takes place throughout the museum itself, with actors appearing from different historical periods as the story unfolds. We were a team of 4 and have played 30+ escape rooms together. The concept and setting are genuinely unique. Exploring a real museum while interacting with actors and uncovering pieces of a larger story has a lot of potential. The museum itself creates a fantastic atmosphere and gives the experience a special identity that stands apart from traditional escape rooms. Unfortunately, the execution struggled heavily due to the amount of teams playing simultaneously. Many groups were trying to solve the same central puzzles and story beats at the same time, which created major bottlenecks. While smaller clue fragments were spread nicely across the museum’s three floors, progression in the main narrative depended on shared actor interactions and key moments that became overcrowded very quickly. This led to situations where actors were overwhelmed trying to handle multiple teams at once, making the flow frustrating and inconsistent. Instead of feeling immersed, we often felt like we were waiting our turn. Considering the relatively high ticket price, I expected a far more polished and controlled experience. Overall, while the idea itself is excellent, the execution significantly hurt the enjoyment for us. I would not recommend it unless you go in with very low expectations and do not mind paying a premium mainly for the novelty of the setting.
