Open Door Escape Games - Redlands

My group and I just did an escape room trip across the state of California and we all agreed that this was one of our top games out of the 20+ that we played over the course of the week we were in the state. The combination of the staff, room mechanics and layout were just unbelievably surprising. There’s one particular thing in this game that happens that I’ve never experienced in 250+ games played and it had my jaw on the floor. I loooooved this experience and wish we could play it again for the first time!

It’s not everyday I get to experience a game like this. To call it a game isn’t really even accurate. This is truly a fully realized, elevated experience showcasing what escape rooms have been evolving towards. Everything in this experience was cranked up to an 11. The acting, the set, the music choices, the scents, the way you interact with the environments. It’s all thought out and done perfectly. I was lucky enough to play this experience a few weeks after it officially opened and I can already tell it’ll go down as one of the best rooms in Florida, the USA, or perhaps even the world. I 1000% recommend (obviously) and I can’t wait to see what the TEV team can whip up next!

What a fun and unique game. Even though this experience does fall into one of the classic escape room categories (western, pirates, prison break etc.) there was such an interesting story and set that this was very easy to ignore. The combination of Wagon Train, Bloodshed Bayou and Doomsday Disaster are a really great collection of games that really hold up well in a market as competitive as Orlando’s is. 100% recommend this room!

I’d like to start off by saying that we had a great experience. This being my groups third TEG location, it was probably my favorite just because of our game master and how nice all of the staff were to us. The game itself, has some issues. The clue system was a little broken for us and would sometimes give us clues for things we’ve already worked on or already knew how to do. There were some things that were clearly bypassed for us because they were not operational. The in game audio also just stopped working after about 35 minutes had passed. A really good game, and a very fun concept, just looks like it needs a bit of maintenance.

This game was objectively awful. It is a very tech heavy room and a lot of the tech didn’t work very well. There were several instances when we’d complete a puzzle and stand around looking for something and nothing opened. A voice would then tell us that something was open, or to push/pull on something hard to get it to open. My main complaint with this game is lack of indication. There was nothing in the space to tell you what to do or where to go next. There was also some complicated tech in the game that was needed multiple times that I feel like should’ve been explained in the rules how to use, because learning it in the game took us some time.

You can definitely tell that first and foremost, the people who built this game are haunt builders. One of the most interesting and immersive sets I’ve ever experienced, just like all the other reviews say. However, you can also clearly tell that they’re haunt builders because this game’s puzzles were mostly all bad. I think 80% of them were button pushing or entering a digit code into a keypad. Many of the puzzles had absolutely zero sense of direction and in the later half of the game we basically needed help with everything. There was also a red herring that sunk about 3 minutes of our time because it was obvious we should do something with it and then our game master told us to ignore it. There was a puzzle at the very end that was super cool, but again, no sense of direction to actually get the pieces to complete it. Clue system is done through a walkie talkie as well which I always hate, and we failed on the last puzzle and needed about 2 minutes or so to complete. (Which wouldn’t have been an issue without the clearly placed red herring) TLDR: extremely interesting and immersive set but really really bad puzzles.

Think Escape Games - Orlando [prev. Escape Hatch Orlando]

Just a really solid, classic escape room. There was some tech but the room is starting to show it’s age ever so slightly. Only complaints from me is that this is also the room they use for their Christmas themed room, so there are basically 2 escape rooms in the first room, and a lot of locks and things we didn’t need because it was a part of the Christmas themed room. Also, lots of locks in the same room that are the same (ex. multiple 4 digit code locks, word locks) so it gets annoying trying your code in 3 different places. Overall flowed well and we had an enjoyable time.

This game was a hard one for me to swallow, especially after enjoying Murder in London so much. The atmosphere wasn’t amazing. The walls are assembled out of pre-molded, plastic panels that don’t fit together well so you can see the seems between them. The room felt very bare and the puzzles themselves were not anything to shout at. There was a puzzle my group completely skipped because of the way it was designed and the way it was described to us via a clue in the room. During this the game master told us we shouldn’t do that and then when something happened we weren’t sure if we should use the information we had recieved. I will say there was a pretty neat ending, but other than that I wouldn’t really recommend this game. There wasn’t anything that made me like it or made me really hate it. Just kinda meh.
