Project IcemanCave EscapeEscape roomIRLThis was ok but not excellent. There were a couple of puzzles that didn’t seem completely logical but the rest were. The being in a cave didn’t seem to massively be used in this room - only lightly.
The Dark ForestHorror StoriesEscape roomIRLThis was very immersive and one of the scariest games we’ve done. It takes the UKs scariest attractions and supercharges them. This is about fear of the dark more than other aspects.
Asylum of Fear [prev. Das Sanatorium]Horror StoriesEscape roomIRLThis was a very scary game to do. It was essentially playing resident evil/silent hill style games but in person. I found this more scary than the dark forest game at the same venue. Puzzles reasonably straightforward- but getting to them or being able to complete them can be challenging.
KURIOSUM - Artifact of DarknessEscape Room WittenEscape roomIRLThe best escape room we’ve ever experienced. This was immersion to the max. The thing that really made it stand out was the way the set was done so that you felt that no-one else had been there before. It felt undisturbed in decades. The level of thought, detail and tech behind the scenes in this game was incredible.
Grimm Up NorthEnigma Live Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLAbsolutely fantastic. This ranks up there with the best in the UK for us. Almost feels u fair to other escape owners to have this and seance in the same building - on the same floor even. The set is great, everything has a purpose. It flows well, things don’t feel like they’re taking forever and you get through things at a nice pace. Having the story and then the tokens is great and so is putting it at 75mins. Love this format. We got 12 tokens as well!
For Sale’m'Escapable - The Ridings Shopping CentreEscape roomIRLThis is now in my top 10. It’s not a huge room. It’s not a hugely expensively done room. It is however, the same as all of Escapables more recent rooms - thoroughly fun and enjoyable. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and there’s things in there that are purely for fun. Like other rooms of theirs- you don’t feel that you want to rush out of it as you’re enjoying the experience and the space. The bits of humour throughout add to it. I’m sure this will end up with an excellent rating. It’s no marv and it doesn’t have quite the nostalgic bit as outtatime but it has some modern different fun to it. Absolutely fantastic use of what is in reality quite a small space. It won’t blow your socks off with amazement but you’ll enjoy it and be happy you did it.
Follow In My FootstepsKanyu EscapeEscape roomIRLLiked this room - was good although not spectacular. The venue and the staff were absolutely fantastic and can’t be faulted though - literally the only place to have ever offered us drinks in between games!!!
The Secret of the Leopard PeopleKanyu EscapeEscape roomIRLThis venue is great - the hosts were very accommodating and for the first time ever we actually were offered drinks as an example between games. This room was our favourite of the day - the decor, the theme, the puzzles - all was fun and made sense, if a little tricky at times.
Poachers' Compound [Outdoor]Kanyu EscapeEscape roomIRLEnjoyed the room and the novelty. A couple of the puzzles were fun and different. The host was great too. However, if it weren’t for those things I’m not sure this would be as highly rated.
Lightning In A BottleKanyu EscapeEscape roomIRLFelt like quite a hard room to get through as was quite a lot to get through- although most the puzzles themselves didn’t seem too difficult. Really disliked the one puzzle at the end though - a machine. However, all that being said - this was still a great room with great set decoration and everything else logical.
TestRunStuck in the RiddleEscape roomIRLLove this room. It’s a split up and conquer as many points as you can kinda thing. One that could be a candidate for multiple visits as there’s so much to do. We scored 88,670 as a 2.
Cabin In The Woods Escape RoomStuck in the RiddleEscape roomIRLWas a fun and spooky game. GM made all the difference (Mark).
Murder Mystery Escape RoomStuck in the RiddleEscape roomIRLLeast favourite type of theme for us now. Nothing wrong with the room so am just not going to rate it - I’d otherwise give it a lower rating for our preference rather than it deserving one.
The Cape Escape RoomStuck in the RiddleEscape roomIRLIt was ok. Light theme. It felt like the oldest style of room and a plain room. Then two rooms that felt they’d been heavily decorated around the edges and then there just wasn’t much in them.
The StudyHidden Valley The Puzzle ParkEscape roomIRLIt was ok. The most curious thing was that it was a fully automated experience and there were two rooms identical. So there's 3 levels to the study, one is included in your park entrance fee, the others you do progressively after the first and are 8mins and 15 mins as opposed to 6 (IIRC!). Each level is in the same room but the automation varies and the puzzles are different. Due to the automation there's no potential for a human to reset the rooms so the inputs and things you can move are very limited and it's more observational. Compared to aa traditional escape room it's rubbish and I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. However, the fact it's automated, short and super cheap - it's a fantastic concept to experience that I wonder whether others could emulate in venues elsewhere. It was this part of it that I found most capturing overall. The park it is in is fantastic for kids and we've been before and liked it enough to go back again. Would highly recommend the place. Their shop is also the best collection of escape/puzzle games I've seen in one place. The room can only be done with park entrance and cannot be done standalone.
Area 51.5The Escaporium Halifax - The MillEscape roomIRLThis was a fun game that felt lighthearted. There’s some great use of tech in the room that felt like it was all there for a reason rather than for the sake of it. Also some clever mechanics and puzzles too. There’s a lot of work gone into making it atmospheric and the set design is great and not sure they could have done more with the space that it occupies!
Operation MoonshineThe Escaporium Halifax - The MillEscape roomIRLThis was a fun theme and things were very well integrated and hidden - some really fantastically hidden clues within the room. Our host Anne was great fun and enthusiastic.
The HaligonianThe Escaporium Halifax - The Piece HallEscape roomIRLReally enjoyed this room - the theme was good and was a local room. A few puzzles that were tricky but hiding in plain sight and gave you that ‘kick yourself’ feeling once you got them. A good variety of puzzles too.
A Christmas Advent-ure - CLOSEDThe Escaporium Halifax - The MillEscape roomIRL2500 puds - a collection room rather than an escape one. This is probably one of the best puzzle/collection rooms in a compact setting we’ve done. It’s not spectacular in set design, space or mechanics - there’s much better Xmas rooms than this for that. However, if you like trying to fly through puzzles, this room is great. It is linear and you need to get through as far and as fast as you can - we got through 19 days. Unless you are exceptional you will not get through everything in here in the hour. So the high rating here is more about enjoying being able to try and fly through the linear puzzles as quickly as possible and enjoying them for puzzles sake rather than the room and set itself being special. The puzzles themselves are a great varied collection of ones you’ll have seen elsewhere but also integrated with the room quite well and makes use of what space there is.
