Convicts

Another unique room at escape boats thanks to the unusual setting, but also nice racing mechanic and some special puzzles

We snuck Convicts in on a whim and we’re so glad we did! Convicts is a larger group game that nonetheless flows well even as a group of 2 - make sure to contact them in advance (unlike us). Just like SOS, the game takes full advantage of its unusual location, especially in some of the transitions, which provided some of the most intriguing navigation I’ve seen in an escape room. The puzzles also flowed better this time around for us - we just clicked with them. Once again, our host was very accommodating in allowing us to see both pathways - unusually for a split team game, they are somewhat distinct and interact in a very interesting way! While I’m probably in the minority, I think I liked convicts more for the strong flow and unusual structure, but you can’t go wrong either way.

Very fun room. Requires you to split into two groups to start and the two groups do not ever join back up, so it is basically two separate rooms running side by side.

Two teams, compete, against each other. A great way to make or break your escape group.

We had an excellent time with Julie who allowed us to do convicts with two people and play all the way through, fun game dynamics, can imagine it would be super fun with a big group too!

8.3/10 First off, if you are not competitive or are claustrophobic in any way, this room is not for you. You will be competing against a group opposite of you in tight spaces with very low ceilings, and I mean tight as in small, dark, cramped spaces. Hope you brought your sea legs because the rocking of the boat sets in about 2/4ths of the way through. If all of those things sound exhilarating to you, this is an amazing experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

8.2/10 Our experience was different than the intended experience of this team vs team game because we called before to ask if we could play as a team of 2. Although this does change the game and flow a bit, we did still really enjoy our time on Convicts. For the section of the room we did play, they take full advantage of being on an actual boat, where you will literally never see puzzles here anywhere else. There is A LOT of crouching and crawling here. This game is on an actual boat so there are a lot of things that you should not touch to damage the boat, but we felt that there might have a bit too many “Not Part of the Game” stickers around the room which made it very restricting. Even as a 2 player experience, Escape Boats knock it out of the park with Convicts and solidify itself as the best Escape Room business in Dublin! (Make sure to check out our full review on our blog. Very cool! Did it the same day as SOS. Staff set it up so we could do it with 2 people instead of 4.

Never a dull moment at Escape Boats! Out of the 3 between Dublin and Galway convicts would rank the lowest but that doesn’t do the room justice at all. Had a brilliant time battling my friends in Convicts, cannot wait for their new room in Galway to open!
