Step onto a pirate galleon in the middle of a battle for control of the High Seas. Your captain, the terrifying Blackbeard, has just been killed and his ship is shot to pieces and sinking fast.

With no chance of victory, you and your scurvy shipmates decide to jump ship – after helping yourself to the contents of Blackbeard’s legendary treasure chest.

You’ve broken into his cabin to grab all you can, but now the door has jammed shut and you’ve just 60 minutes to escape; any longer and you’ll drown – if the sharks don’t get you first.

This was the second time doing this escape room but with a different group of people. I knew several of the answers to puzzles but took a step back to let the others who were doing it for the first time work it out on their own. However a couple of the puzzles were a complete shambles. We placed the gunpowder in the hole it was supposed to go into and connected the fuse to the side straight away yet nothing happened. Each one of our five person team did this in turn, all announcing what we were doing and still nothing happened. This went on for about ten minutes before we rang the bell for help and we were then told to put the gunpowder in the hole and connected the fuse…. Which we’d already done numerous times. Same goes for the cups and candlestick on the bookshelves in the second room. As soon as we had those props we’d placed them in the correct places on the shelves yet nothing was happening. It took another ten minutes and another bell ring to be told we had to place the items on the bookshelf in the exact way we already had? First time round I really enjoyed the escape room but this last time was a disappointment. We were let into the room 20 minutes after our original start time as they were late and rushing to reset the room. And then the whole time it felt as if they just weren’t watching us to make sure to press buttons and open doors. I believe they were probably short staffed and focusing on too many rooms at once and unfortunately that made the experience poor.

A good story with some frustrating puzzles that we were over thinking and some good red herrings.
