1627

Highly recommend - definitely the best and most authentic escape room we have ever done. Our host Tijn was amazing and so knowledgeable about the history of Groenlo, and his English was excellent.

Hidden gem. I had no clue what to expect and that's the best way to play this room. Everything felt very authentic, the setting, the puzzles, and the story that's tied to the actual location. Don't expect anything huge or flashy, but the quality here is undeniable. It is very different from other games in the Netherlands and so the drive here is worth it.

The puzzles were very original, sometimes difficult, but in a good way. It really was a challenge to come through. The atmosphere was great. Every detail was right.

I'm not sure if this was actually the case, but it's one of the rare rooms that felt like it might have been 100% mechanical (or at least nothing more high tech than a magnetic switch). The only other notable game that I can think of that I've played is like this is Josp Fontcalda, and I liked this one a little better. The set is great and feels like a historical house with a couple "wow" set pieces. The plot ties into local history, which is always interesting to learn about (and the GMs were happy to nerd out about it). Puzzles make sense and are generally good, though we had a little trouble early on (in retrospect, this is on us; the puzzle was fair). Some games inspire wonder by transporting players to fantastical worlds. Groenlo 1627 does it by taking what might otherwise be a boring historical recreation and hiding secrets all over.

Groenlo 1627 by Escape Room Groenlo was our third room of the day, played with a team of 4. Despite being quite tired by that point, the experience immediately brought us back to life. From the start, the GM was incredibly welcoming and caring, giving a great introduction to the story and setting the mood perfectly. His enthusiasm felt genuine, especially since he’s from the area, which added authenticity and passion to the experience. Once the game began, we were amazed by the handcrafted environments that beautifully recreated the historical period. Every new section brought a fresh WOW moment, thanks to the attention to detail in lighting, props, sound effects, and clue delivery. Everything felt carefully designed to enhance immersion and storytelling. The puzzles lean on the challenging side, offering plenty to think about without breaking the narrative flow. Highly recommended for all players, though having a few experienced team members will definitely help make the most of this outstanding and lovingly built experience.

If you like escape rooms then this is just a must. Beautiful set and great unique puzzles, we loved them. Host Luke was so friendly and made the experience even more special!

Just an all around solid room. I’m glad we took the drive to this unique room that is grounded in the actual history of the town. The scenic quality is excellent and they make fantastic use of sound to amp up the immersion. I only wish they had more rooms to play!
