A suspicious fire engulfed the Oakridge Lunatic Asylum. 5 patients under the care of Dr. Rutger were presumed killed, but their bodies were never recovered. Dr. Rutger’s late wife Helen made a death-bed confession – her husband had a special room where he performed his darkest and unspeakable works… Navigate the madness in the remains of the Oakridge Lunatic Asylum and solve the case – if you can. Your group’s mission will be to enter the remains of the asylum and unlock the secrets of Dr. Rutger’s horrifying deeds.

I like this location a lot, but this is the weakest of the currently open games here - it's a good time, but it's not doing anything special. I'd suggest their games in this order: Echoes at Murder Heights, Big Foot, Doomsday, Asylum.

Full disclosure, we we're supposed to play this room. We had booked another but after frustration in our lack of success in Zombie, we pivoted to this game at the suggestion of our host, who explained that since it's a smaller room, with less to do, it might be easier for us that the Mummy themed room (of the same difficulty but much larger, made for more players). This was the first time I realized that even though two people can technically play a game, some games are engineered for bigger groups, with the sheer amount to accomplish is difficult, even for clever, experienced duos. Anyway...we started off great. We each took on some different tasks, even though we typically don't like to divide and conquer (I like to see alllll the puzzles and details). A mostly positive experience, but it was really a stretch to say we got our money’s worth. I don’t mind if there are challenging puzzles—that’s kinda the point—but when the challenge is that the puzzle isn’t right and key info isn’t legible, that’s not my idea of fun.
Gameplay
I loved most of the puzzles. There were a few that really broke the flow. Very disappointed with the fact that key puzzles were in disrepair. One in particular had the GM play like she didn’t know and this was a recent development, but it was something that couldn’t be solved without the GM literally reading off the answer; this was something they had to do for multiple runs of the room for this to be THAT bad.
Atmosphere
Most was great, however the amount of spoon-feeding from the GM to overcome the disrepair was particularly difficult because the ambient music was much louder than the speaker they used to talk. Not a fan of standing there asking “What!?” fourteen times because the spooky music drowned out their voice.

Game was awful. So many things broken. Puzzles didn’t make sense. Awful flow. Terrible ending. Had zero fun. Not normally one to write reviews like this but I wanted to leave that room from the moment it started.

Such a fun room! Super spooky and well themed. Puzzles were difficult and tedious, but engaging. Some issues with rubbed off numbers, broken flashlights, and hard-to-trigger effects led us to not making it out, but that doesn’t stop me from giving this room a high score. Those jump-scares got me!

Great atmosphere! Puzzles were well connected and flowed through the room. Would have been nice to have some jump scares, but understandable when there isn’t enough workers for each room. Great staff!
