The Apartment

It’s not the worst game I’ve ever played. But it’s close. This is easily the most boring game I’ve ever played, however. There isn’t even a set. The walls are white and there is a couch and a rug and an oven they bought on Craigslist and no theming to be found. When I first walked into the room and the game master began explaining the rules, my friend went “oh, this is the room?” The puzzles are ridiculously basic and have no depth to them. Sometimes the input methods fail for no reason. There is nothing necessarily problematic about the puzzles, they just are so boring and uninteresting that they’re not fun. There are multiple math problems. There are props that need to stay in specific locations to solve puzzles, but you can move them from said locations. For some reason. Because this company is bad. It’s not even fun-bad. It’s just bad. There is no soundtrack. You will be playing in silence. Also, it’s public booking, so you could play with strangers in silence. Also, it’s $39-$41 per person with strangers in silence. Clock Tower made me angry. This game made me sad. Do not go to this company.

Not a very exciting or interesting room. Technically playable but there were no standout moments. It was literally just an apartment with some keys and puzzles inside. I do have positive memories of one interesting hiding spot. 1/5.

Fun room, cool apartment set, complete with kitchen and bathroom. My team of two got out with two min to spare. Lots of combinations and locks! We had fun and our GM Arthur was great

This escape room was very much a basic old school room. There was no clear direction or path to the end, simply finding all keys to get out but it was difficult to figure out what clues helped with which puzzles which became a little frustrating. Overall an okay escape room

This room definitely nailed the set design in terms of making you think you were in a run-of-the-mill (Boston) apartment. The puzzles I found to be a bit on the tedious side and it required going back and forth from Point A to Point B (and C, D, etc.) a lot [I’m speaking figuratively — those Points are not actually physical parts of the room design!]. There were some things that didn’t quite add up or make sense intuitively (or logically) and it required some leaps in logic to understand and solve. I think that with some improvements on UX, this room has the potential to be better.

So I will add a disclaimer to this review, noting that this was one of my first escape rooms and I did this eight years ago in 2016. At the time, it was great. Some fun clues, and a good group of people to work with. I’m not sure if it would hold up now, seems very typical. It’s still worth doing as an introductory escape room I think for people.

We enjoyed this room. A few unique puzzles. Overall, a good time.

Worst escape room experience we’ve ever had. Entire place is run down, dirty, and broken. GMs do not respond to requests for clues in a timely fashion or at all. Room noise from other rooms is distracting. Overall negative. Terrible.

Did not like it. The whole space felt dirty, didn’t want to touch anything.
