Doctor Who: A Dalek Awakens

Avoid, I saw the reviews and still went ahead and booked, as someone who has done escape rooms around the world and has worked in them I found this very poor. Things require a fair amount of force and/ or werent working properly even after we had things solved. We lost around 20 minutes to this at different points I’d say. We put in a passcode right multiple times : yet did not work and then magically did after a few times. No where worth the price.

The puzzles don’t have a particularly good flow but there were some that were fun. None too hard or especially new and some did drag out slightly. Overall not one of their best rooms but good.

The hosting was fine and the location is inside the Boom Bar, similar to other locations. The game itself was disappointing. It looked fab but there really was no substance to it. There just wasn’t enough to do. There weren’t enough puzzles and I’m pretty sure the company knew that so they passed the time by having you stand still (literally having you freeze), giving no idea of what to do next or letting you play with puzzles that weren’t able to be solved yet. The tech also lets it down with some being a bit overused and janky. I think this could be a decent room with some tweaks. The decor is good, and the Dalek and voice over pleased the Dr Who fan amongst us but the puzzles need some attention.

Fully powered by AI, no host watching to help. The AI is terrible. The puzzles don’t flow logically and some things just didn’t work or were delayed even though they were correct answers. A huge waste of money. DO NOT BOOK!

Wasn’t a fan of this one - wouldn’t recommend. Puzzles were deliberately designed to waste time and for the most part didn’t make much sense so we had to ask for multiple clues. Also it took ages to get clues after asking.

Many of the puzzles did not connect logically without a clue. And many left you wondering where to go next. Some were broken, some were reset wrong and some were finicky. I was really excited for this room as a doctor who fan and it was a lackluster and disappointing experience. Our game guide was also nice during our intro but our outro was super super awkward and they never mentioned the broken things. They just said at least you made it out. Apparently it’s a hard game. A game should be hard due to cool and complex but still logically sound puzzles NOT puzzles that require you to guess because nothing connects them.

It was a good room. We did it with 2 people and could have used at least one more to help with a few things. Very clever theme.

The room was fun. It doesn't require knowledge of Dr. Who, but being familiar with the show makes it more relatable. Very linear puzzles. Stay alert to changes within the room. We often solved puzzles, but it wasn't obvious that we had or what the solution triggered.

Amazing room, played as a team of two as an introduction to escape rooms for my partner, and we both loved the experience. Everything was working, it was perfect for a team of two as it was a linear room, and hints were prompt when asked for. The BBC link meant the dalek was real and the voice acting was a brilliant addition! Very cool trying to avoid being detected by the dalek, added an extra layer to the pressure of the challenges!

This game was somewhat lacking... Its a shame there's only one room and not much happens with the dalek. I wouldn't say it was worth the money.
