The year is 1990, and Odette DeLaporte has invited you to her study. As the last remaining heir in New Orleans to the DeLaporte fortune, she needs your help locating a treasure which went missing a long time ago. The reclusive matriarch has not been seen in public for quite some time, yet she has agreed to meet with you with the hope that you can recover what’s been lost.

We played this right after Jazz Parlor which is a follow-up in the overarching storyline. It's an older game, mostly mechanical, but don't let that stop you. This was an enjoyable experience. I will say it's quite a bit easier than Jazz Parlor and we breezed right through with at least twenty minutes to spare. (Glad we did too, because that let us return to Parlor and play the bonus puzzles-see my other review.) MG Study had a very nice flow and all puzzles made sense & were pretty intuitive. The room matched the overall company, a room in an eclectic New Orleans mansion. Escape My Room is a fun company to check out if you are in New Orleans. I'd recommend you do both Parlor and Study. We didn't do their Smuggler's Den due to a time crunch and it seemed the high reviews came from a the novelty of a dark room. From a story standpoint, Parlor first. From an easy to hard plan, Study first.

You're trying to get a message out before it's too late. Fortunately for you, the madame is a fan of puzzles and has her place setup so that only the best can reach her. As you explore her place, it's filled with her collections and nods to New Orleans. It's a charming and fun experience with much to do in the hour. Would suggest for just 3, since it is a small space. They have a beautiful lobby with puzzles to solve while you wait and their decor and vibes will have you entranced the whole time. If you need a post spot hangout. They're directly connected to a bar who will get you discounts if you mention them and a small food spot.

The Mardi Gras Study was pretty linear with fun mechanical puzzles. Very family friendly and entertaining for beginners. Would love to try out their other rooms next time!

The design of the lobby and room are wonderful. So much immersion and props. The room itself is fun. Some of the puzzles didn’t work great (maybe not reset properly?) but our game master was quick to notice and fix it. A lot of clever puzzles. A good mix of lock, keys, and other solving methods.

A frame we barely touched fell off the wall and the mod was pretty mad at us. A couple of the activities didn’t make sense and we skipped some stuff and still progressed. 2 of the locks didn’t work and we were stuck. Had it worked we would have escaped.

Mardi Gras Study: A murder in the DeLaporte mansion begs to be solved. We had to join forces with the police to close the case. Jazz Parlor: A reclusive matriarch has a hidden treasure that our group was tasked to find. Pros: The sets at Escape My Room are FANTASTIC. We loved the immersive feel and experience created by the set design. Definitely worth a visit just to appreciate the work put into the rooms. The storylines were also enjoyable and elements in the set add to the overarching narrative. Cons: Our main complaints center around our experience with the game master and puzzle design. Some of the puzzles were overly complicated leading to logical fallacies. Numerous red herrings also burned up large portions of our time. These issues could have easily been remedied with more specific guidance from our game master. However, our moderator did not seem to fully understand the game flow or the puzzle solutions. He struggled to assist us and sometimes delayed our progress. Lock failures added to our frustrations. At one point our game was completely stalled by faulty materials and the game master was unable to deal with the problem. We ultimately left angry and annoyed but the owners responded promptly to our concerns. Overall we recommend you visit Escape My Room if for no other reason than to appreciate the awesome work they have put into set design. The rooms are too good to be missed. We hope that the issues with locks and the training of game moderators have been remedied by the time you visit. We have no doubt you will enjoy your experience at Escape My Room!

There are escape rooms that take as their inspiration the city itself and that's what I love about Escape My Room. The location is very easy to find - it's located inside a white building with columns and a majestic front. I would recommend 2-3, no more than that just because the space is quite small. The Mardi Gras Study felt like a whodunnit and I liked the story overall. My partner liked this room more than Jazz Study because it had puzzles that we haven't seen it before but I think the two are actually pretty comparable to one another. We tacked this room at the end of our day and it ended up being our 5th room in a row. We were exahusted but I don't regret a single moment. The room does fall under a Gen 1 lock and key category. Overall, a good contender for additional escape rooms if you're coming from Baton Rouge and you want to do an escape room in New Orleans like we were.

The folks at Escape My Room do a really good job and highly recommend giving their games a play when you are next in New Orleans. The location is very centrally located and easy to get to. The first time we did struggle to find the entrance but we did figure it out eventually. All part of the mystery. The game had a good mix of puzzles for everyone in our group to work on.
