The AMS (Automated Metro System) has relaunched its automated metro project, and you are the first ones to come and try it. They have allowed us to have a station right here at Escaparium! Hop on board the AMS-2, the second version of this metro system. Back in 1999, the technology still had some flaws, and AMS had shut down the project. But now, the technology is at its peak! This company will revolutionize the future of public transportation. Obviously, absolutely NOTHING can go wrong...

This was our first of 9 rooms for our trip to Montreal. I read another review that said be careful with this room if you get motion sickness. I figured it wouldn't be that bad.... it was that bad! I didn't want to miss out on this room because it is so highly rated and looked fun. But it would have been worth missing, IMO. There are other more fun rooms to do. I spent a fair portion of the time leaning up against a wall trying to keep my bearings. That said, the set is cool. The very first part of this game made us realize this was an escape room on a whole nother level.

This exciting action thriller was our first game at Escaparium Laval and it did not disappoint! The set was expectedly spacious, the tech was seamless as we knew it would be, and the puzzles were naturally thematic and diegetic; but what made the experience stand out was the brilliance of the live actor, who controlled pacing of the game and the storytelling to ensure we got the most out of the experience. It’s amazing how Escaparium can pull off such ambitious concepts at a level of quality that goes beyond merely a big budget.

To enjoy The Final Stop, you have to be comfortable interacting with a verbally aggressive live actor. I felt so uncomfortable, I could not enjoy this experience. While this room is not scary, the actor slams things, which can cause jump scares. The actor did not respect my request for no jump scares, so I ended up having to beg for the slamming to stop. My fear was exacerbated because I was already on edge due to the aggression. Also, if you are motion-sick prone, ask them to turn off the train rocking before entering the room. The issues with the actor aside, this was the weakest storyline I did at Escaparium. There was only one puzzle in the room that I found inventive; the rest were unoriginal or poorly designed. At some point, the game master didn’t trigger the next step when we unlocked it, leading to an unnecessary delay. Even if the actor was eliminated, the room itself leaves much to be desired.

Gameplay

There was only one original puzzle.

Atmosphere

Atmosphere was very uncomfortable, though immersive in aggression.

Customer service

The GM did not respect my request to tone down the aggression.

The actress and the lady working there that picked us up from the room after we finish both need to be fired. The room itself is fine. Nothing special TBH.

Gameplay

There were actual puzzles that we were able to stop and think about instead of being force fed clues like the other rooms we did here.

Atmosphere

Set design was fine. Being from NYC, we have done so many subway train rooms before. Nothing special. I think the actress was redundant. Just made her annoying instead of actually adding to the atmosphere.

Customer service

So the actress was told that one of our players doesn’t do loud noises and she still purposefully slammed the gates and threw cans. I called her out on it and she told me I was being mean and she didn’t like me so she gave the props to the other players. Then the lady who took us from the room was EXTREMELY Rude. She didn’t want to be there and she should honestly leave. Escape rooms should bring smiles to people’s faces.

This room was good, not great. I think it suffered from being too spare. I appreciate that everything in each space gets used, but there weren't *enough* things in each space, which meant that it was usually pretty obvious what to do with the things that were there. The story was predictable, especially considering the law of conservation of characters.

Gameplay

I actually liked most of the puzzles (with one notable exception, because it was essentially the same puzzle we'd done earlier in Voodoo Queen but with a different presentation).

Atmosphere

The game begins on a subway train car that feels like a real train car, a feeling augmented by hydraulic movements and video footage.

Customer service
Story

The story was weak and obvious.

Was anything broken?

Yes

One of our players got motion sick and asked for the video screens on the train to be turned off. In attempting to do so, the GM accidentally unlocked the door to the next act prematurely and couldn't lock it again, so we had to pretend it was still closed.

Live actors

Yes

Our actor was good, but the story gave us no choice but to behave in a certain way with him when we would have chosen otherwise.

This game felt like a sleeper pick amongst the sea of incredible games here. It was so much fun, and the actor really pushes this from good to great! The second half was weaker than the first half. We wish there was more tension and more things to do in the second half. It is still an excellent game and well worth a play on a visit to Escaparium
