Puzzles are set for your more challenging players. However, 13th Gate Escape doesn’t disappoint in the areas of innovation and production.

The set design is phenomenal and it's worth doing just for that, but the puzzles are quite difficult in a frustrating way and not in a way where you feel accomplished for figuring it out. The iPad hint system also feels especially cold and frustrating to use, especially when you're most of the way through a puzzle but get stuck on the last leg of it, and so all the hints the iPad gives you are stuff you've already figured out. If you do this room, commit to asking for lots of hints and solutions if you feel stuck at any point or you won't make it in 60 minutes. Our group didn't get out even though I thought we were making good time and I was fuming all day about the iPad.

Seemed to be a lot of complete in one hour. The room highly depended on a journal and reading which in my opinion really down grades a room. The set design was impeccable and had some good unique puzzles.

I will reiterate what many others have said, this is not a 60 minute room. We were a group of 4 enthusiasts and made it to the final part of the game without escaping. The puzzles were unfortunately a bit disappointing and at times frustrating. They bounced between being so simple it felt like we must be missing something and so time consuming we felt like… we must be missing something. BUT OH MY GOD THE SET DESIGN. I do not regret playing this room at all, I was so wowed by the attention to detail and the overall cohesiveness of the room, not to mention the fun set mechanics. If only I didn’t have to carry an iPad around and scan QR codes to get hints it would’ve been totally immersive.

Beautiful set design completely wasted on this room. Way too many puzzles, and many poorly designed ones with bad instructions, a time-wasting puzzle we didn’t need to do to solve a clue in the end, very difficult locks to unlock with given keys, easy to fail a puzzle if you don’t do them in a very specific order and overall a bad experience. It relies heavily on a good GM to warn you when you’re on the wrong path or did something that will accidentally screw you over to solve a puzzle. This should be a 90-minute room and not require a journal so heavily to get through the room.
Bad puzzles, finicky mechanisms, too many puzzles for time allotted, too many time-wasting tasks

13th Gate is unbeatable when it comes to set design, theming and props. The puzzles is where they severely drop the ball. Their hint system with iPads is just terrible and you absolutely will not escape in 60-mins without many clues or prior attempts. It’s great they walk you through how to solve it, but a puzzle should be solvable and it shouldn’t require 20 mins or more to complete when there are far too many left to complete.
Insanely difficult puzzles with the very first having no organization for getting them started and I hope you like reading because you’ll be doing it the entire time
It’s so frustrating because the sets are movie quality. Breathtaking, exciting, fearful, and just so solid and fun. The puzzles bring the experience down very far
iPads didn’t exist in ancient Egypt… so maybe don’t have that be included because it takes away from the immersion

You will need a lot of help if you want to escape. 60 minutes is not enough

There’s no question that the set design is amazing and top tier. However escape rooms are about theme AND puzzles. There’s so much reading involved it pulls away from the excitement. And there’s a puzzle that’s left to chance which ate up so much time. This room should be minimum 75 minute room. When everyone HAS to rely on a journal, it’s best to give every single person a journal, not just two people. It bottle necks us like crazy.

Feel the gaze of Anubis as he watches over you… While it isn’t scary, it is a bit spooky. It’s more spooky in the beginning in my opinion. Anyways, it was a fun room and my group enjoyed it!
