For us, we’ve never experienced an escape room quite like this. The level of storytelling, the set design, and the performances from the live actors were the true highlights of the experience. The story itself wraps up perfectly, it feels like you just stepped foot into a whole movie from start to finish! Unfortunately, there were moments where some of the monologues felt a little too long. From the moment you step inside to the very end, the immersion of being in another world is never broken—and that’s a bit of a double-edged sword for us. One of our favourite things to do is chat with the GMs after a room and geek out over the mechanics. However, it’s clear SBI takes their world-building seriously: you never interact with anyone out of character, and you leave feeling like you truly entered this reality and never quite stepped out of it. While that’s not necessarily our cup of tea, it’s something we can absolutely appreciate and respect. As others have mentioned, the escape room itself leans toward a more traditional lock-and-key style, which can feel a bit dated compared to newer rooms. That said, the puzzles are all themed around Houdini and blend seamlessly into the set and story—they don’t necessarily stand out individually, but they contribute well to the overall experience. Even the clue system is fully integrated, to the point where you hardly think about there being a GM behind it. Because of this, and perhaps due to the more classic puzzle design, it feels more like a theatrical experience than a puzzle-driven escape room. Overall, this is still an incredible experience that I would recommend to anyone in the Houston area. If you want to feel like you’ve stepped into a movie, this is absolutely worth traveling for. However, if you’re looking for a puzzle-heavy experience, it may be best to temper your expectations.

This was such a fun and unique experience. The whole séance storyline around trying to contact Harry Houdini really pulls you in right away, and the acting was honestly really good. It didn’t feel like a typical escape room at all, more like you’re part of a live story. We did get stuck on one puzzle that ate up way more time than we wanted, but we were still able to figure it out and finish. But what makes this stand out is how immersive it is. You’re not just solving puzzles, you’re actually part of what’s going on, and the story takes some really cool turns along the way. I can definitely see why it’s so popular. Overall, super fun experience and definitely worth checking out.

I have been trying to get to Houston to play this for a while. It is certainly a fantastic room and easily jumps into my top 10. I will say I thought the "performance" aspect, especially near, the end drew on far too long. Would have preferred more game play, however that's just me being picky. This is a bucket list room for all escape room enthusiast. The actors were incredible and I do appreciate old school lock and key rooms.

This was truly a breathtaking experience. Strange Bird Immersive lives up to its name with an immersive story experience from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. Live actors helped to bring you into their world. Even the explanation of the rules was given in character. Every challenge fit into the narrative with each solution offering another piece of the story. From beginning to end, this felt more like a narrative experience than it did a game. Normally a single-room escape room feels a little simple for my tastes, but the ways that new unique and interactive tools were exposed keep the excitement and wow-factor alive. Every challenge stood out, and none felt arbitrary. Our actors (Lexie Jackson and Brock Hatton) played their roles excellently. It feels indulgent to make any additional asks, but I personally would have enjoyed more of a back-and-forth conversational experience with the actors, but I also understand that some would prefer to let them guide the show. Truly remarkable.

Fantastic acting. This was almost more of a performance and magic show than an escape room. There were interesting puzzles, although nothing extraordinary. The storytelling and set design were masterful. I could appreciate it but I wish the puzzles were a bit more memorable. Still, a unique and great experience.

This was an absolutely excellent experience. You won’t find an immersive experience like this anywhere else and the puzzles/storyline were top notch as well. It was very well designed and executed on all fronts, and I’d definitely recommend checking this one out before it goes away.

I loved this room! It was worth traveling to Houston to play. They made this room extra special for me and I’m so grateful to everyone at Strange Bird Immersive. I had just finished chemotherapy and treated myself to playing this room. They were kind enough to do a tarot reading for all three of us in my party and they gave us a non alcoholic spritz while we got our readings. The big box puzzle really stumped us but the answer was right in front of our faces. My friends were really worried they wouldn’t be able to solve the puzzles but it is doable for intermediate escapees. One of the keys was out before we unlocked it so they had to come in and put it away because we got ahead of the game but that still didn’t detract from our experience. I got a little teary at the end because the storyline is a little love transcending death and since I’m dealing with cancer, death has weighed heavily on my mind. I loved the way they set up the hint system. It’s a nod to the time period. There is so much attention to detail. The thank you tarot cards has a link on it and if you follow it, you’re in for more surprises. Great job on a game well made! Highly recommend hitting Traveler’s Table nearby for dinner after you play.

Our 400th room and one of my favorite escape rooms of all time! I wish I could give this room higher than a heart. It’s more than an escape room. It’s a spiritual experience. Please, from one enthusiast to another, live out this masterpiece for yourself. Take a step and go to Houston just for this. After all, why shouldn’t you?

  • At times there were puzzles and at times there was theater. Either way, there was magic.
