The Orphanage

We don't normally do scary rooms, but we were on a hot streak of toppling monthly records at The Great Escape and wanted to keep the party going. The big worry for us going in was 'jump-scares' and there weren't any in this room but it still does an effective job of being creepy. The opening moments were especially effective. It wasn't until a couple of hours later, after we were done, that it dawned on us how deeply disturbing the story for The Orphanage in, but in the moment the rush to complete the puzzles and avoid the scares didn't allow that to sink in.

A super enjoyable room from start to finish, The Orphanage was so well thought out, it’s my absolute favourite at the Great Escape (all Venues). A fantastic flow of puzzles is what really sold this one with seamless multi linearity handled with clever sign posting and interwoven story beats, it was a wonderful spooky adventure. Marketed as the hardest of their rooms available, we didn’t seem to have any trouble but rest assured there’s still plenty of challenging puzzles with a nice amount of variation. Also not too spooky for those hesitant due to the theme, definitely worth checking out. Praise Pickles. 8.4/10 🔏🧩

Won’t somebody think of the children?! My favourite of the Great Escape offerings I’ve played thus far, The Orphanage is a true delight. I really enjoy a spooky room but they can be hit or miss with the puzzles, this one the other hand was a home run. A great array of different puzzles, excellent set design and all around a well put together room. The flow was near perfect with us finding an opportunity to do things at basically every turn. Our host for the day Lana was awesome and working really hard running so many rooms solo. 100% one I would recommend. Also shoutout the lil frog on the mushroom, I liked his vibe.

We really enjoyed this room. Completed with 2 people, would be crowded with 4 or more. The first part was a little challenging but we were really happy overall with how everything flowed and made sense. Puzzles were challenging enough to keep us busy but not so challenging that we needed to ask for a hint. The story was good and puzzles all linked well with the story.

An interesting room and storyline for the theme, probably our favourite in Bendigo.

Excellent room with a very original theme and fantastic game play. Shows that a room doesn't have to have a high budget or mechanical puzzles to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Staff here are wonderful too. Definitely give this one a go.
