Renegade Episode 1: The Retrofit

We were absolutely delighted with these rooms. I’ve done almost 400 rooms and I am hard pressed to think of a room that had technology that operated so reliably and smoothly and sophisticatedly. The puzzles were original and clever and fun. We are from Los Angeles and we would absolutely reccomend a day trip to Santa Maria to play all the games here.

Amazing tech. VERY Well constructed! I have done over 250 games and tech can always be an issue but this all worked perfectly and has a great 3 story arc. Highly recommend

Immersive room with very good set design. But we found it super easy and all the puzzles can only be done linearly. This meant that we could only do 1 puzzle at a time: at any time 2 of us were just standing around waiting for the puzzle to be completed by the other two.

Let me preface this review by saying that this room had so much potential and I wish I walked in knowing that there will be some puzzles left unsolved. Coming from Rita’s Relics, I was very excited to hear that they had an opening for Renegade’s Episode 1. I walked in the room and the technology here is quite impressive. However, a few things took away from my experience. First, there is a checklist that tells you exactly what to work on next. This is a linear room and it is recommended that you work on the puzzles in order. That in itself is not a bad thing but with all of the different puzzles that may or may not be part of Episode 1, I think it would be helpful to have some marker that says - this is for Episode 2! The second part that took away from this experience is the connection between the story and the actual puzzles themselves. There were certain puzzles that I understand in hindsight but it was not as intuitive and the pattern felt like a reach. That feeling of “aha” was less so in this room. Finally, the ending felt anticlimactic - I would recommend reworking the end a little bit even though we know that there is an Episode 2! A cliffhanger is fine but the ending needs to be so good that people would want to come back. Overall though, service is wonderful. Shout out to Neil for being our game master for both games. If I’m in the area, I would still want to check out Episode 2 and I hope they take the recommendations into consideration!

Okay, let me start with this room had so much production value and looked SO impressive! The staff was so sweet and chatted with our family after. I guess my problem was I just didn't love the room. It was hard to follow along with what we were supposed to do so it didn't feel very intuitive. Mostly though, right when the story was starting is when the game ended and we were all surprised because there were so many puzzles left unfinished. When we asked about them they said that those puzzles are for episodes 2 and 3 so it felt weird we've already seen many of the puzzles but didn't get to do them. So....I do recommend you try it for yourself because the room is polished looking and the service is great but it felt incomplete and wasn't my favorite room overall. I don't think I'll return for the next episode.

Super fun room. I would be interested to play episodes 2 and 3 together. Great attention to detail and fun tech. This is a great room for beginners, as the puzzles are fairly straightforward. It's certainly a lower level of difficulty than their awesome game, Rita's Relics. If you are in the area, play them both.

Overall a great, if somewhat easy room. The production value is incredible, very polished. Puzzles are very linear, and tie in loosely to the story line. Staff is very attentive and helpful. Perfect for a group of four. We played with six, including four adults and two kids, and it was a little too crowded. Really looking forward to the future episodes.

This is the first of a 3 part story they have planned with this room. I enjoyed the space theme and like the idea that future parts of the story will use elements of the room that weren’t used in this one. It is a more linear experience and there aren’t too many things that you need to keep track of but it still felt engaging and we still had to put in effort to figure out which interfaces we needed for each puzzle. All of the puzzles were creative and had probably the most creative puzzles and use of technology I’ve seen in an escape room. I’m looking forward to the next 2 parts they have planned for this room.

One of my favorite rooms I’ve even done (I’ve done around 10-15 total). It was high tech, challenging, but not too difficult. I can’t wait for the sequels to be released!
