On a stormy night, you awaken from a nightmare, experiencing a sense of déjà vu as eerie images flood your mind: creepy dolls, charred photographs, blood-red rooms, and piercing screams echoing in your head. You wander through the room like a ghost, unable to recall what transpired. Everything seems connected to Edeline, but the details elude you.

If you are looking for a game heavy on story and light on combination locks, Edeline is your game. Do you like independent, story-driven video games? Edeline is the IRL game for you. Do you have a love/hate relationship with Victorian dolls? Book this room immediately. Do you enjoy immersing yourselves in spooky, but not gory content, and enjoy a good satisfying twist ending every now and again? Edeline is all that and more. Do you like feeling clever and useful? Making logic connections, but not doing any real math? Have a decent memory? Edeline will make you feel like genius. Are you a large group (4 or more) who are looking for a lot of puzzles and something for everyone to be working on simultaneously? Please do not book Edeline, it's not what you are looking for and you will be left disappointed. Me, I play as a duo and we appreciated Edeline for all the things it offers, as well as the things it does not. It was the perfect compliment to our set of a dozen games we booked during this trip.

One item wasn't triggering it's audio, but we were able to proceed without difficulty. A large set piece is missing a part, but we were informed in advance and it does not have any effect on story or game.

So this is an escape room for less than 4 people. There was only one puzzle happening at a time & we had a group of 6 so most of us just weren’t doing anything the whole time. A lot of the props were broken or needed to be updated. Also there was so many storyline events that happened that just….kept going. Our group was very confused on if we needed to do something to continue or just wait for the cutscene to end. Most of the puzzles in the room are nothing special & are mostly boring or answers are flat out given to you (both in game and by the GM over the speaker without you asking for hints).

Edited my review on this specifically because if you leave a bad review for this company the owner will personally text you in order to berate you for leaving a negative review on a “room that everyone else loves”

It’s fine. It was honestly mostly confusing & hard to follow as they didn’t give the storyline in an easy way to follow.

Was anything broken?

Yes

Literally so much stuff is broken. One broken thing we were warned about before starting the game. But there was a mass amount of broken props & aesthetic pieces in the room. We solved multiple puzzles without the room triggering the solution & the GM had to manually override the system.

Accessibility

The rooms are very small with little room to navigate around. Not color blind friendly. A lot of audio you need to hear to solve puzzles. The lights flash multiple times & fully shut off at one point & you are forced to walk in the dark. There’s also a puzzle that’s higher up on a wall that required significant strength to pull it (more than the 2 finger rule).

GM made a joke over the speaker about “getting” us while we were in a particularly scary portion of the room. Also there is at least one person at this company who is willing to pull private information from your waiver to harass you afterwards.

I am sorry you didn’t enjoy Edeline, most players love it! Since you haven’t played a lot of rooms yet and have some strong opinions regarding game play I would suggest thoroughly reading room write ups before booking a room; you will want to look for specific words like “story telling room” , “linear” those will almost always be very linear rooms, more story based, not as puzzle forward and not great for larger groups looking to divide and conquer. We at Cloud Escape and No 1 Escapes pride ourselves on having varied themes, difficulty levels and game styles with something for everyone! Not sure it's fair to rate a room poorly for being exactly what it was advertised as being. As an enthusiast myself, I also prefer non linear, puzzle forward rooms. Based on this preference I would recommend Kapow Komics at Cloud! At No 1 Escapes I think you will really enjoy Sev3n and the Fortune Teller! And Battleship -The Pirate Edition although not a typical escape room is a Puzzlepoluza! And great for true puzzle lovers!

EDIT: The morning after finishing Edeline and posting my review, I received multiple text messages to my personal cell phone number from an unknown number belonging to (I'm assuming) an owner of Cloud Escape. The texts made clear that this (presumed) owner read my review and was so upset by it that they used my Morty profile name and attached game photo to find my booking and pull my phone number from my liability release waiver. These texts felt angry, spiteful, and guilt-trippy. I've attached screenshots to this review. My original review was written quickly, during my car ride home, as a means of getting some immediate thoughts out. And I had planned on coming back and rewriting my review today, as I had a lot of thoughts about my experience (which was not entirely negative by any stretch). But having my personal phone number ripped from my liability waiver to send me vindictive text messages has left me feeling, frankly, violated. And I no longer have any intention of writing a more detailed, even-handed review. This (presumed) owner's claim that my criticisms are "unnecessary" because: I didn't bring them up while at Cloud Escape, that "anyone who has done escape rooms" knows that bringing "a group of four or more to linear escape room is going to have some people left out", or that "99 percent of the world has loved this room" and I don't know "how much effort was put into a room like this", are all ridiculous. What about people who aren't experienced with escape rooms? How are they supposed to know that a group of 4 or more will leave people in their group feeling left out? If, by your own admission, a group greater than 4 will give people a lesser experience, then why sell this as a room for 2-8 players? By saying this at all, you're admitting to me that my criticism was 100% correct and necessary. And I have no doubt that a lot of effort was put into this room. It was very ambitious. But all escape rooms require a lot of effort to build and design. That doesn't mean we should give all escape rooms positive reviews even if we didn't have a great time in them. That would defeat the purpose of platforms like Morty! People share their honest experiences, so others can make more informed decisions about where to spend their hard-earned money. I also, *really* have a hard time believing that this mystery texter doesn't know what's broken and unpolished in this room. How about the giant hole in the counter we were explicitly warned about before we entered? How about the broken speaker that makes multiple, extended, dialogue-based cutscenes nearly incomprehensible? How about the drawers that easily jam or fall out or require significant force to open? I could go on, and I probably would have if I hadn't been approached in a way that was wildly unprofessional and inappropriate. No part of me wants to hurt small businesses, especially those that operate within a hobby that I really love. But I feel that would-be customers of Cloud Escape should know that someone there is willing to leverage your personal contact information to overstep boundaries and antagonize you for not loving their rooms. I was excited to come back one day to try another of Cloud Escape's rooms. I was impressed by the ambition of some of Edeline's effects, and thought it likely that their other rooms wouldn't share the same issues I'd had with it. But there's zero chance I come back now. My original review is below. ____________________________ Do not do this room with more than 4 people. Ideally this room should be done with 2 or 3. Most of the spaces are cramped and the puzzle flow is entirely linear so you’ll all be working on the same puzzle at all times. Multiple effects were noticeably broken and there countless unpolished areas in throughout its presentation. Calling this room “narrative-focused” does not justify the stifling linear puzzle flow, especially since the story isn’t particularly strong.

I would call this in an experience escape room. Extremely immersive, awesome storytelling, different levels of difficulty. The owner David was really accommodating. Highly recommend this room. One of the top games in LA/Orange County.

The room had a good atmosphere and a lot of cool technology. There was a lot of waiting around to listen or waiting for the sequences to end. The storyline is a little confusing at times. Very simple puzzles. Would not recommend this room for a large group. The staff member at the beginning did not have a friendly tone when explaining the rules.

As one of Cloud Escape’s older rooms, some of the props were showing wear and tear but it added to the whole spooky atmosphere of a house falling apart. Production value was not lost on me despite this! I don’t know how they made props appear and walls move and I ledt feeling genuinely impressed by the mechanics of it all. This is a story-driven experience unlike other escape rooms trying to beat the clock so take your time. This room was alloted 80 minutes and we finished with 15 minutes to spare. We had a group of four and we worked on all the puzzles together as this was a linear flow, which met our expectations. Touching and memorable, I hope they keep Edeline for others to enjoy in the future!
