Checking in for a relaxing weekend at this secluded mountain hotel was super easy, but checking out could be murder.
The hotel is haunted with the spirits who have met their grizzly ends here and they want you to join them… forever.

I would recommend this room to experience puzzlers, games felt original and tied together well. It was nice to be in a new room. Looking forward to trying the others

6/10 ⭐️— All That Shining… But Not Enough Story! 

As HUGE horror movie fans, we were SUPER excited to take on Room 172 at Exit 4 in Conshohocken! A room paying homage to The Shining?! SAY LESS!! We were HERE FOR IT! 
And visually, they definitely delivered. The set design was fantastic, with recognizable nods to the movie throughout. From the elevators and iconic carpeting to the creepy children in the hallway and, of course, THE MAZE! You could tell they put thought into incorporating elements that fans of the movie would immediately recognize and appreciate.

Unfortunately, the storyline was where this room lost us. For us, a truly great escape room needs three things working together: set design, storyline, and puzzles. When all three are cohesive, the experience becomes something special. Room 172 nailed the visuals, but the storyline? Ehhhh. So we’re in this creepy hotel, surrounded by all these wonderful references to one of the most iconic horror movies ever made, and our mission is to retrieve…

Because apparently, the hotel doesn’t like things being out of place.😒

With all the possibilities this theme presented, THAT was our mission?! We just couldn’t get excited about it. Now, the puzzles themselves were actually pretty good. There was a nice variety, with a few genuinely challenging ones and a couple that felt a little outside the usual path of logic. Overall, though, we enjoyed the puzzle-solving portion.

But because the storyline never really grabbed us, the ending felt incredibly anticlimactic. All that buildup…for a painting.

We escaped, but instead of walking out excitedly discussing the experience, we were just kind of…blah.

If you’re a fan of The Shining, I would still recommend checking this room out for the set design and movie references alone. But if you’re like us and really value a strong, cohesive storyline that ties the entire experience together, this one may leave you wanting more.

Great homage. Good puzzles. Underwhelming mission and payoff.
