Wow. Amazing room. The storyline and theme of this room was fantastic. It was just my wife and I and we were not at the top of our game and almost escaped. We struggled with a few of the puzzles and needed quite a few nudges. Even though we didnt escape we loved this room. The use of technology, storytelling and artistry in this room and all the rooms at Key To Escape is as good as it gets. You must stop at Key To Escape if you are near the Stateville NC area or just looking for some great rooms. Roger the owner was very hospitable and we enjoyed talking about escape rooms, tech and various other topics.

A twist of oz was a lovely room that had so many great small moments sprinkled throughout. It had very homemade and cute decor, and while the puzzles were easy they still felt substantial and fun. Definitely more experience and story oriented than puzzley. If you love Oz or enjoy a cute fun game, Key to Escape is definitely a place to visit!

This room is one of my top ones I’ve done in 2025. It’s magic.

Gameplay

The puzzles in this rooms were so much fun! We had a blast, we were smiling throughout the whole room, it flowed incredibly well, we weren’t stuck walking around not knowing what to do. Super concise.

Atmosphere

I could go on and on about the set design and how insane it was. It was movie set level design. Absolutely beautiful.

Customer service

Our gamemaster was super nice and awesome! She was there right where we needed a little nudge in the right direction.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

I haven’t done a Wizard of Oz themed room before, so I thought it was incredibly interesting and different. It was amazing.

Story

I loved the story! There was a clear direction of where to go and what to do. It felt like each thing we unlocked brought more into the story.

Difficulty

Medium

It wasn’t a hard room, but it wasn’t the easiest either. There are some searching puzzles in this room and my husband and I just suck at those so some parts felt a little more challenging.

Game tech

High tech

I don’t think there was one lock in the room. All keypads and maglocks.

Ideal number of players

2 people could do this room but you should just bring more just for them to experience it with you.

So much fun! We loved every minute of our Twist of Oz experience. The room was unique and colorful. We alo loved the soundtrack and the scenery so much that we found ourselves slowing down a little, just to enjoy it longer and even sing along. It is clear the owners put a lot of love and labor into the room and we enjoyed chatting with Roger before and after our game also! Can't wait to see what they come up with next!

I marked like based on game master, owner and building itself. The game and puzzles were a little easy. The props were worn and room needed a little updating. You can tell the owner loves the theme. Best part was little red shoe we got when we left.

Twist of Oz is Key to Escape’s newest room and it really shows with their integration of high tech puzzles- I don’t believe there was a single β€œregular” lock - a lot of keypads, but also some original tech. I will caveat this review with the statement that I genuinely love the people at Key to Escape and think they are so passionate about what they do, but my husband and I both agreed that their style of game just isn’t for us. That being said, this was a step up from Under Pressure, but implemented many of the same strategies/faults. They definitely pride themselves on being a hard escape game, which I actually don’t believe is because of the puzzles, but because of the lack of flow and jumps in logic. I also think a huge thing in both their rooms has been SEARCHING. I know some people love combing over a room from top to bottom searching, but I prefer my time to be spent working on a guided puzzling experience, not a free for all. It feels like a time suck and takes away from my experience. While we did escape the room with 12 minutes to spare, I think it was solely because we knew what to expect from Under Pressure. When we solved puzzles, neither of us felt satisfaction with them, it was more of that β€œoh, that worked?” kind of feeling. There were definitely fun moments in this room and the set is adorable- we loved the apples feature and the wiggling feet. And we loved the beginning sequence/story/ room in black and white. Overall, we had a good time but will not be returning to play top shelf elf, which appears to be the β€œhardest” of the three. I wish I loved these games more, especially since it’s the closest location to our home, but they aren’t for us. I feel like they need a fresh set of eyes to come in and refresh these rooms. But don’t let that stop you from experiencing Oz yourself, see if it suits your style of play!
