This room had solid theming and atmosphere, but the puzzles were slightly confusing. Some parts could be tweaked to make the gameplay flow smoother.

I liked the Bermuda Triangle concept and the puzzles were thematic for the most part, though I wished it could have been more immersive and leaned into the weirdness more. It had a good mix of tech and traditional locks. We struggled with a couple of the puzzles, partly due to design flaws but also partly because we over complicated things or didn’t pay sufficient attention to detail. The overall difficulty wasn’t too bad as we escaped in 35 minutes, though this was by far our slowest time out of all their rooms.

Bermuda Escape was an enjoyable and surprisingly challenging room that reminded us quite a lot of Adventure Rooms in Adelaide. It has a relatively traditional escape-room style, with plenty of searching, combination locks and puzzles requiring both logical and lateral thinking. Whether the reliance on locks is a positive or negative will largely come down to personal preference; for us, it occasionally became frustrating simply because the subdued lighting made some locks and clues difficult to see. To their credit, the staff were very accommodating and provided us with a penlight and lantern, which certainly helped. The premise has your team awakening on a mysterious island within the Bermuda Triangle with no memory of how you arrived. Evidence suggests others have been there before, and you have limited time to unravel what happened and find your way back to your own reality. It is a simple but effective setup that suits the room well and gives some purpose to what you are trying to accomplish. We started strongly, but the difficulty increased considerably as we progressed. Several puzzles required some genuinely out-of-the-box thinking, and although we always prefer to solve everything ourselves, we ultimately needed assistance on a number of occasions. One clue we had simply overlooked because of the low lighting, but there were also a few puzzles where, even afterwards, we weren’t convinced we would have reached the solution independently. Observation is particularly important in this room. We occasionally overlooked things that were right in front of us, so carefully examining your surroundings is just as important as solving the puzzles themselves. Fortunately, our game master judged the timing of the hints very well. The assistance was useful without simply giving everything away and generally put us back on the right track. We played as a group of six, including four people experiencing an escape room for the first time, and that felt about right. I personally wouldn’t want a larger group in the space, as it could begin to feel crowded. Although we were naturally disappointed not to escape, everyone still came away having enjoyed the experience, and the first-timers in our group had a much better understanding of what escape rooms are all about. Bermuda Escape isn’t the most elaborate room we’ve played, but it provided a solid challenge and a satisfying introduction for our newer players. Combined with Mindshift’s attentive customer service, it left us very willing to return and try another of their rooms.

Gameplay

There is a good mixture of observation, deduction and lateral thinking, with some puzzles proving considerably more challenging than others. A few solutions felt particularly difficult to reach without assistance, while the low lighting occasionally made searching and operating combination locks harder than necessary. That said, the challenge was generally enjoyable, and the clue system worked particularly well whenever we became stuck.

Atmosphere

The island/pirate-inspired environment works well with the Bermuda Triangle theme and creates an appropriate sense of adventure. The relatively low lighting adds to the atmosphere, although in practical terms it occasionally made clues and locks more difficult to see. The room isn’t overly elaborate, but the setting is effective and supports the experience nicely.

Customer service

Customer service was one of the strongest aspects of our visit. Our hostess was welcoming from the moment we arrived and took the time to clearly explain how escape rooms work, which was especially valuable with four first-time players in our group. During the game, hints were timely and genuinely helpful, and when the lighting caused difficulties, the staff readily provided additional lights. There is also a Photo Booth at the end, which was a fun addition and a nice way to finish the experience and capture a souvenir of our visit. Even though we didn’t escape, the friendly and attentive treatment contributed greatly to everyone leaving with a positive impression of Mindshift.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

The Bermuda Triangle concept gives the room an enjoyable identity, although the overall format is fairly traditional. Expect a classic escape-room experience centred around searching, locks and lateral-thinking puzzles rather than extensive technology or theatrical effects. It may not feel particularly unusual to experienced players, but there is enough variety in the challenges to keep the hour interesting.

Story

The Bermuda Triangle premise provides a clear objective and suits the environment well. The introductory briefing helped establish the scenario before we entered and gave some context to what we were trying to achieve. The story isn’t overly complicated, but it does its job effectively and complements the puzzles without getting in their way.

Great room with a good set design, good props and well hidden clues for your puzzles. Narrative and escape is linear and easy to follow. Atmosphere and theme is nice, but also simple. Some puzzles and tasks easier than others, but overall doable, even with just 2 people. Although, don‘t expect to crack the fastest time like that :D Game suitable for beginners I would say. GMs here really friendly.
