The Admiral has given you direct orders to gather a crew to go in search of the Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen. Finding the right sailors might not be so easy as nobody has lived to tell about such an island or if it actually exists. If you find it, you shall seek and gather the knowledge to what is known as "eternal loneliness" from the Voodoo Queen; something the Admiral greatly seeks but for which you do not know the meaning of.

A really fun game with beautiful set and amazing theming throughout. The most ‘in world’ element was the hint system was GENIUS. I have never left a game thinking about the hint system before, so that was a change. We played as a 5 and I would recommend a smaller group for this game. Overall a solid experience!

Gameplay

It has a wide variety of puzzles in different styles which makes for a constantly changing puzzles dynamic.

Atmosphere

The set was truly breathtaking, with so many amazing surprises and details.

Customer service

Our actor was Christopher and he was so excellent. He pitched the humour of our team so well too and joined in a lot!

There was never a moment when the game play stepped outside the narrative, diegetic puzzles were throughout. But I would say the most in world element was the hint system. It was GENIUS. I have never left a game thinking about the hint system before, so that was a change!

Story

As a pirate themed room it very much did everything that you would expect.

I played this as a 5, and as an enthusiast I felt like it created a sense of chaos that I think could have been avoided with a smaller group.

Potentially some of my favorite puzzles we did at Escaparium. The set was super cool and even the puzzles were very on theme. The actor/gm definitely did their job in getting us hyped up for this room. But I do wish their speakers for the GM were louder. I struggled to hear them multiple times. Also, the motors for one of the doors was really slow and definitely killed the vibe a little. But aside from that I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles I did. Extremely piratey. I’d definitely suggest this room for families with tweens.

Super fun! We had a brilliant GM who played his character expertly. Puzzles were all thematic and linked well with the story. Game starts linear but becomes nonlinear in the second half Not difficult at all so should appeal to all

I loved the set and theme of Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen - one of my favorite childhood games was Monkey Island, and I got strong vibes of that in this game. Puzzles were pretty good as well; things made sense and flowed well. Like some other games at Escaparium, my main problem with the game was audio. Some dialog (generally lines coming from above) was very hard for me to make out clearly, which got in the way of enjoying the game. Fortunately, it turned out to be more for flavor and less for critical information, so it wasn't a huge deal, but everything else about the game was so good that this stuck out to me.

Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen absolutely blew us away; we truly felt like the main characters of an adventure movie. As of writing this review, this is absolutely the best escape room I've ever played in my life. The opening sequence did a beautiful job setting the story, the set was mind-bloggling from start to finish, and the lighting choices made the space genuinely feel more like an outdoor environment than a room. Additionally, the GM was probably the best we've ever had. He was an amazing actor, completely focused on our group, never broke character, kept us progressing through the story without making us feel like we were getting hints, and most importantly kept up great banter with us throughout the game. The special effects also blew us away, and were both surprising and realistic. This was one of those games where I wasn't thinking about any sort of race against the clock, I was simply immersed in our adventure. This game is a must-play and absolutely worth traveling for. David's 2020 review on Room Escape Artist still holds up to this day, the only part we disagreed with was the negative about too many breakaway objects, which Escaparium seems to have since fixed. In our playthrough 5yrs after REA's review, we were only able to pick up things that we were genuinely meant to work with.

Accessibility

1. Folks whose disability causes trouble with balance would likely struggle to move through this room. While I think some mechanics could be turned off by calling ahead of time and notifying them of balance issues, some spots are fully built into the room. 2. Another puzzle would be impossible for someone with red/green color blindness.
