The Amsterdam Catacombs

European escape rooms are so vastly different from US escape rooms. The story lines, historical structure of the space really lend to a story driven escape room experience.

This was truly terrifying and I loved it. There is a lot to appreciate looking back on it after my heart rate has gone down. Fantastic theming. This is one of the best horror themed experiences I’ve had. The puzzles were straightforward, but the fear factor made it a lot harder to think clearly in the moment. The interactions with the GM and actors for hints and storytelling was also really interesting.

Overall, I would say the puzzles were relatively straightforward and made sense. The immersive component stands out here. I read comments about it being overly scary but it depends on your tolerance. My teenaged boys were totally fine with it. Very enjoyable overall. 8.5/10

Excellent atmosphere and actors Did not escape but that did not take away from the ending

The provider Logic Locks offers an absolutely outstanding, 90-minute live horror experience that perfectly blends immersive theater with classic escape room elements beneath a historic church in Amsterdam. The game takes place in the authentic underground vaults and catacombs of the famous Posthoornkerk - an impressive sight when you stand before the venue and take it all in. The experience begins the moment you enter the church. The scenes are expertly staged. For our taste, however, the intro was too long; there was a vast amount of information. It could have been more concise, as we can easily imagine some players tuning out after a short while. The game’s atmosphere thrives on dim lighting, fog, carefully curated sound design, and a palpable underlying tension. Instead of relying on cheap jump scares or gore, the creators at Logic Locks generate a subtle, psychological thrill. Every object, prop, and wall detail in the catacombs feels authentic and carefully chosen. It is evident that professionals were at work here, creating a cohesive and richly detailed world. The tasks are seamlessly integrated into the storyline, and the puzzles are well-balanced, ensuring that the narrative flow and tension never falter. "Amsterdam Catacombs" is an absolute must for anyone who loves thrills, gripping storytelling, and top-notch live acting.

An escape room in the catacombs of a church – quite an experience! I did imagine it to be a bit larger, but the puzzles are really well designed and the atmosphere is fantastic. The ending is especially spectacular and adds a real sense of urgency. The actors fit their roles perfectly and contribute a lot to the overall mood. There aren’t any traditional jump scares, but there is one part that definitely calls for someone brave – not for the faint-hearted, but brilliantly done!

The experience starts the moment you ring the doorbell... and that already sets the mood. I really appreciated that you get the chance to use the restroom before the “investigation” begins (and again afterwards). Also, the staff member mentioned it’s better to wear fewer layers since it can get warm inside, very true! Luckily, I had a T-shirt under my sweater. I went with my husband, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, and before you know it, you’re completely drawn into the story. The atmosphere, the set design, the mystery, and the creepy factor are all incredibly well done. Such an intense and awesome experience! It definitely helps to have a good puzzle-solver in your group. I’m not the best at puzzles myself, but I still managed to contribute. All in all, a fantastic experience, well thought out and full of attention to detail. Highly recommended if you enjoy immersive and thrilling escape rooms!

As a disclaimer, horror games aren't my favorite genre. Having said that, the Catacombs felt like a decent implementation. While I did hear negative stories from a friend about their experience, my group had a smooth playthrough. The game's creators make good use of a creepy found space; the set was pretty good. Puzzles were fine. As usual with horror games, I wish the lighting was better. There's a solo moment that I didn't do but sounded a little disappointing, and I'm not sure if it's fire safe.
