La Rébellion
The Cipher Room St Peters
Escape room
IRL
Another incredible room by Cipher. Simply on a different level in terms of attention to detail and immersion compared to most of the other escape rooms we've done. Some escape rooms are just a bunch of random puzzles tossed into a room or two. All of La Rebellion's puzzles make sense and flow seamlessly from start to finish while remaining true to the theme. Most of the puzzles are not overly difficult, but there are loads of puzzles to do, and they're highly varied and fun. A cracker of an ending too. Loved every minute of it!
Mr Pepper’s Toy Shop
The Cipher Room St Peters
Escape room
IRL
Another absolutely incredible experience at The Cipher Room. The theming and atmosphere were expertly crafted, with exquisite props and clever/unique puzzles. There's actually quite a lot of tech but it's all so well-hidden that it doesn't affect the immersion. No live actors but multiple jump scares to keep you on your toes. There were so many instances where we were left in awe of the design and revelations. And the ending was once again a jaw-dropper. All the rooms we've done at here have been mindblowingly fun for the whole family. If there's one escape room establishment to recommend in Sydney (or perhaps all of Australia) it would invariably be Cipher.

女王と国のために [For Queen & Country]
Studio Escape Nipponbashi
Escape room
IRL
Our second game at Studio Escape is one of the most impressive escape rooms we’ve ever played! Really strong story, creative puzzles that make perfect sense in the well-utilised space, and mindblowing tech and special effects. Super fun experience with laugh-out-loud jokes and cinematic aesthetics. Deserves all the praise!
Seance
The Cool Space
Escape room
IRL
What a truly unique and fun experience. We had some reservations about the whole game taking place in a single room where you remain seated the whole time, but the designers ingeniously kept the game engaging, atmospheric and immersive with a cool storyline, varied puzzles that fit flow and fit the theme, and some well-timed scares that my kids (11 and 12) had no problems with. Definitely a worthwhile experience for newbies and enthusiasts alike. Can’t wait for their new room!
Extraction
The Curium Experience
Escape room
IRL
What an incredible experience! Unlike anything we’ve done before and easily the biggest space of any room we’ve tried in Australia. Constantly on the move, lots of physical activity, plenty of dexterity puzzles, insanely high tech, and most of all, tons of fun!
The Marlowe Hotel
The Cipher Room Newtown
Escape room
IRL
One of the best, if not the best, escape rooms we've been to. The atmosphere and props were incredible, providing an incredibly rich and immersive experience. The puzzles were fantastic, super creative, varied, and unique. We can't wait to go back and try all the other rooms.
Mafia: The Golden Ring
Adventure Rooms - Melbourne (Bourke St)
Escape room
IRL
We weren’t sure what to expect with Mafia, our first game at Adventure Rooms — rated very highly on Morty but seldom mentioned by enthusiasts as one of the top rooms in Melbourne. Well, it turns out that Morty is always right! Mafia smashed our modest expectations to immediately become one of my personal favourites. Very challenging with tons of puzzles but also intensely fun and enjoyable. I absolutely treasure this experience and recommend it wholeheartedly.
The Cabin
The Cipher Room Newtown
Escape room
IRL
I was a bit nervous about The Cabin as it's Cipher's second oldest room and we had already done their three newest ones (Marlowe, La Rebellion & Mr. Pepper's), and there was a concern that it wouldn't live up to the others by comparison. Boy, was I wrong! The Cabin turned out to be another sublime escape room experience, definitely right up there as one of my all-time favourites. The theming was incredible -- super creepy atmosphere (but no real jump scares), and the puzzles were some of the most creative and fun I've done to date. Everything flowed so well and in line with the theme, and the ending -- as with all of Cipher's rooms -- was truly impressive. It was definitely challenging but not impossible -- we accepted one clue to point us in the right direction, though we probably shouldn't have as we would've gotten it eventually and we escaped with 10 minute to spare. I really can't say enough about all of Cipher's escape rooms. It makes me sad that I can only do each room once.
The Artefact
Next Level Escape
Escape room
IRL
Very happy to be back at Next Level again for The Artefact, currently their highest-rated room on Morty, though somehow inexplicably was not one of the several Next Level rooms nominated for TERPECA this year. As usual, the GM played a significant role as an AI with jokes and funny one-liners, adding a lot of levity to the experience along with some humorous situations. Despite its space limitations (underground level of an office building), Next Level did a good job with the theming, offering a few very differently decorated areas that combined mostly hi-tech puzzles with only a handful of padlocks/keypads. The puzzles were challenging but not overly difficult, and despite struggling early we hit our stride and finished the room with 20 minutes to spare. It's a room where teamwork is necessary and important, and having four players definitely made things a lot easier. I would say everything in the Artefact was very solid — the theming, the creativity, the puzzles, and the flow ticked all the boxes — but nothing in particular really wowed us. On the whole, we had fun once again, and we look forward to tackling End of the Road next time.
Box One By Neil Patrick Harris
Theory11 Online
Escape room
Tabletop
Heard a lot of good things about Box One and it did not disappoint! Given the affordable price, the production value was impressive, especially for a game that can be reset and replayed by others. Lots of nice little surprises, twists and turns, plus clever integration of technology. Wish it were longer and a more challenging, but still highly recommend it.
