Alice in LeicesterlandEscape Leicester - Market Street VenueEscape roomIRLWas a decent looking room but the game is basically following a book of instructions with about 10 blank pages between each one just to waste your time and slow you down because the game is pretty easy. If you want a more fun experience, try working out the puzzles on your own without the book telling you what to do.
Escape From OzEnigma Live Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLThis game looks amazing and I’d recommend. But 90% of the puzzles involved reading and following instructions which very quickly became a slog. And for a game named Escape From Oz, you spend a very long time, not actually in Oz. Nonetheless the game had some very nice set design and creative elements I’ve not seen before.
Labyrinth - Lord Barrington's FollyEscape BrumEscape roomIRLFantastic experience. I do love games that have side objectives. We scored 36, just missing out on one more gold and two silver. I tend to dawdle along in escape rooms to avoid escaping too soon but this game kept us busy right down to the last minute. Would recommend it for newbies and experts alike.
AliceQuest HouseEscape roomIRLThis game was perfect for English speakers, had no issues with language barrier between puzzles or host. (Thanks to our lovely host Emmanuel by the way) The game starts in a very unique fashion, with a puzzle to get into the room itself! The set design was great with lots of different unique areas and props. I would probably recommend this for smaller teams, with 6 of us it was cramped at times. (Still fun of course but some players were left out at parts)
Creature Magiche [Magical Creatures]Magic Escape 2 - San GiovanniEscape roomIRLThe first game I’ve played abroad. A good example of a Magic themed room and it’s nice that this is based around Fantastic Beasts and not all about that potter lad like usual. There’s a nice mixture of standard escape room padlock puzzles alongside the magic spell. The game also features some very impressive live actors (yes, plural) who are integral to the game. Would definitely recommend, we even stayed and played a second game because it was so good.
Tesla's ProjectMagic Escape 2 - San GiovanniEscape roomIRLThere was a lot to do in this game, and we enjoyed every bit of. A very hands-on mechanical style room with a unique set of puzzles which depended on teamwork. The set design was phenomenal. If we had time we would have stayed and played a third game!!
SpellCraftTulleys Escape RoomEscape roomIRLI had looked at reviews previously and booked a different game because this one sounded too easy. (We booked for the wrong day and had to play this one in the end) And boy oh boy was I wrong!! There is so much to this game!!! I’m not one to brag but we are good at escape rooms and typically tend to dawdle along taking in the scenery and such. (And this game had some very lovely scenery) but we almost failed this one
RunThe Great Escape Game - SheffieldEscape roomIRLExtremely short game, there’s about 7 puzzles throughout the whole experience. Annoyingly have to share a walkie talkie as a torch. Quite a few things didn’t work or worked in the wrong order. Someone was actually monitoring us during this game though.
Wizards Of TimeThe Great Escape Game - SheffieldEscape roomIRLWebsite says it’s 100-140 minutes long. Then a different part of the website says it’s 120-140 mins long. But the time slots are every 120 mins??? So I doubt the 140min length is legit unless they start other groups in the first room while you’re in one of the last rooms. The technology is cool… if it worked. When it did work there definitely was a knack to it but it was fun to cast some spells and have instant feedback. Other times it seemed like the GM was triggering things manually, I’d point my finger instead of the wand and the “spell” would trigger. Could still be fun for kids but they’re apparently not allowed the wands? So you’d probably just end up with the kids feeling excluded from the fun. One point during the game I thought I saw a rat in the corner, on closer inspection it was a ‘dust bunny’ the size of a rat. Ewww, clean your rooms!!!
The Devil’s Playground: Chapter II No Hope in HellThe Great Escape Game - SheffieldEscape roomIRLWorst escape room I’ve ever played. I’m not even going to take the time to formulate the negatives into a comprehensive review. Here’s the bullet points and if that doesn’t tell you to turn and run then good luck to you: Started late by 30 mins. Host not watching game. Host running multiple games. Host also making drinks and food while running games. Door to main room was half open (just told not to look in until it’s fully open) Snapped key, clearly a broken puzzle just left in there. Gate to 3rd room was unlocked and wide open. The “secret” exit door was wide open. Told us we’d find a 2nd torch, and if we didn’t we should just use phone torch. (There was no 2nd torch) Props falling apart. Tatty puzzles with some missing pieces. Tatty Props stuck to wall with tape. Wires hanging down from ceiling. Awkward non-creepy screaming sounds effects. So much reading in the dark. Very confusing introduction. TV in lift not working. There was writing and puzzles on the wall half covered over by other props. (My friend played this game when it was an older version of this game and they said all the stuff which was half covered were leftover puzzles for the 1st version which they couldn’t be bothered to fully cover up) Certain puzzles just weren’t turned on. So when we solved them nothing happened. We were told by the GM there would be a live actor, there was not. Although someone did wander into the room and immediately leave (maybe someone looking for toilet) After 30 minutes they radioed to tell us our time was up and to leave the room. (Obviously forgot they started us 30 mins late.) The flow didn’t make any sense but that could be because half the puzzles weren’t turned on or already open. The final puzzle apparently we did correctly but the item didn’t drop, so was told to put our arm up the tube (up to the shoulder) to try and reach the final item and pull it out ourselves. Cupboards that opened but didn’t have anything inside. We “finished” in under an hour and he had the audacity to tell us that he gave us extra time.
VikingExtremescapeEscape roomIRLThis has gone up there as one of my favorite rooms. The initial story and the booming acoustics made it feel like we were in a Disney World ride. There were lots of great reveals and surprises throughout the entire game. It's a 75-minute game but I feel like most teams with at least 50 games under their belt will do it within 60 minutes, but I guess the extra time ensures that all teams get to see the entire game and all its wow factors. Will be back to do the other two we didn't have time to try.
Titterton's ToffeesEscape Quest United KingdomEscape roomIRLAs expected, another brilliant game from Escape Quest. Even after playing the 4 previous games here, the magic of Chapelgate Mysteries is never lost on us. The care and dedication put into these rooms is astonshing.
Space PodEscape Leicester - Horsefair Street VenueEscape roomIRLMy first game at Escape Leicester and I was pleasantly surprised. (Escape as a brand can be very hit & miss) There clearly has been a lot of effort put into this game and considering we played a few days after opening it's great to not have had any issues. The room is one of the smallest I've played and I wish I had played it as a team of two or three; as five of us made the area very tight and left most of us just watching half the time. Our host was very energetic and made us feel very welcome and he clearly enjoyed his job.
The PrisonLucardo ManchesterEscape roomIRLAn overall good game, The set is on point. The staff interaction is top tier. But I just feel like it could have been better. Maybe bit more content in first area, leading to more back and forth. There was an interesting concept but felt they could have done more with it. And the clue system for this game meant that we still had some leftover hints from the previous team.
The Goblins of ToadsmeadBeverley BreakoutEscape roomIRLA MUST try game here. Definitely my favourite game at Beverley. A nice variety of areas and puzzles. Plenty of things to do and nothing frustrating at all. You actually solve puzzles in this game, it’s not just pointy pointy wandy wandy.
Operation Hideout - Jewel PursuitBeverley BreakoutEscape roomIRLWe did the 100 minute version of this game. Very good fun, a few tense decisions to make during this game.
The Great Toy RescueBeverley BreakoutEscape roomIRLA very fun experience with lots to do for everyone. It’s perfect for everyone not just kids.
Santa Paws and The Christmas Chaos - CLOSEDBeverley BreakoutEscape roomIRLOne of the best Christmas games I’ve played. One puzzle was so incredibly clever, very impressed.
ImpactEnigma Live Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLA beautiful game. Very nice set design, sadly the game kind of lacked interesting puzzles. It’s a complete shame because this game could have been amazing. Most items are tatty and literally stuck to the wall with bluetac. Troublesome touchscreens and lots of reading.
Mr Copplestone's Curiosity ShoppeEscape Quest United KingdomEscape roomIRLAnother brilliant game from Escape Quest! This was the fourth one we've done here and it was perfect. Just when we thought we'd seen everything they could offer, they pull the rug out from under us and surprise us all over again! Cannot wait for what they do in their new one.
