The Mad RapperScenario Escape RoomEscape roomIRLGame play was great! The puzzles were a good mix of logic, observation, riddles, and physical games. Very fun, but felt a bit disappointed with how many players my group had. Recommend 3-4 players to cover everything. Any more could be pushing it if the players are experienced with escape rooms
The Morning AfterPanIQ Room - West HollywoodEscape roomIRLThe room itself was a fine fun time, overall I’d rate 6.5/10 The props are pretty funny, and definitely understand why there’s an 18+ warning. Overall the room and gameplay are more basic compared to other escape room companies. There is a fair bit obvious gameplay. If you can piece things together then the room is actually fairly easy. It’s a fun room that’s great for something to do as a quick activity. Honestly, this nor any of Paniq’s rooms are great for big escape room enthusiasts One glaring complaint is the hint/clue system is horrendous. My partner and I got caught on one puzzle that ate up almost 10mins of time. We tried to communicate exactly what we had an issue with. But the hints given were clearly scripted. We only got hints for things we already completed, 3 times. Unhelpful and killed all momentum and fun. We kept trying to shout and point to the specific thing we were stuck on. But instead of getting any useful hint, so we could try and attempt ourselves, the GM just gave us the answer after the 4th time trying to communicate. That was a massive bummer and soured our experience. And this happened in another room as well
Superhero: OriginsPanIQ Room - West HollywoodEscape roomIRLThis was not very enjoyable room. I’d rate it 3.5/10 Some puzzles were fine, almost fun. Most others were just lousy, and some will eat up a lot of time without being able to do anything. One even almost requires outside knowledge to get through without doing trial and error. The ending also just comes out of nowhere. Very abrupt and immediate. Overall confusing, frustrating, and unsatisfying experience all around My partner and I got very stuck on one puzzle. As there was a riddle to solve. But the riddle itself didn’t give any way to clarify how to interrupt the words for one part. And the area to input the answers had to be in a very specific position. There is zero indication of how to know where to begin. Because of this my partner and I had to ask for a hint. But we only received scripted hints of how to find the object, where to put in the answer, how to use the answer device. All the while we were shouting trying to explain we already did everything from the hints they were giving us. It wasn’t until the 4th or 5th attempt we got a straight up answer for our task, not a hint just blatant answer. We couldn’t even try to work it out. This was a huge kill joy. The theming really didn’t make much sense with the story of heroes either. If the set design was changed out for some other theme there’d be almost no major change for the gameplay. The whole space was made to look great but gameplay was sorely lacking.
Meow! I'm a Cat.Exit Game OC - AnaheimEscape roomIRLReally cute and fun game. Clever use of the cat theme with everything definitely relating to felines 🐱 Gameplay and puzzles are geared more towards kids. But there’s a lot to do, so even more experienced escape enthusiasts will have a fun time being a Cat 🐈 Owner was super cool to chat with as well. Very friendly and welcoming person 😁
Activate [Interactive Arcade]Activate - Culver CityEscape roomIRLNot an escape room but an interactive arcade. It’s the LED room you see in ads on social media. Visited multiple times. Has the LED floor room, plus several other games to play. Basketball, throwing, laser room (sooo much fun), color match room, and a couple more. No matter who goes there will be a couple rooms that will appeal to everyone. It gets crazy busy during the weekends. But weekdays are usually fine without too many crowds.
Escape the Red RoomEscape Duck - San GabrielEscape roomIRLThis was definitely one of the hardest rooms I’ve ever done. Like the another review mentioned, the puzzles are very different from other modern places like 60 Out, MazeRooms, Escape Game, etc. Not high production or fancy equipment. The challenge comes from the puzzles being more deductive and critical thinking based. Unless you’re familiar with that type of thinking the room will be agonizingly difficult. But it’s an enjoyable and annoying change of pace compared to other escape room companies in LA. It’s very similar to old school 1st or second generation escape rooms.
Big Brain Labs60Out - HollywoodEscape roomIRLGame is super fun and a nice twist on the scientist theme. Has a lot to do and probably warrants 3+ people. Production is crazy good as well. The puzzles and tasks themselves are actually very well thought out. Each one fits within the science theme perfectly. Difficulty is very well thought out too. Overall it’s one of the most enjoyable rooms I’ve ever played. And the GMs Rebecca and Grant were amazing. So cheerful and chatty about the room itself and others. Got some nice recommendations about other places to try out
Ghost StoriesBrain Games Escape RoomEscape roomIRLThe room is very fun and surprisingly cute. Definitely not a true scary thriller room. It’s spooky themed with silly whimsical cuteness. Families can take their kids here without much worry, unless they are honest to goodness hardcore scaredy-cats 😸👻. Gameplay was very entertaining. The way the room is designed makes it very fun to stop by just play. No major rush to beat the clock, lots to do, and everything is somewhat guided. So very beginner friendly as well. I’d categorize the room more as one to do for fun with friends, not a hardcore competitive room. It’s nice to have rooms like this 😁 Only thing to mention is there is one part that requires a bit of climbing. Be careful not to trip 😅 100% highly recommend this room and the whole company! Easily one of the best top tier escape companies near LA! All the rooms they have are amazingly well designed, tricky but not overly difficult to impossible, and themed meticulously to the point of being truly immersed in each room. Don’t hesitate to stop by for an awesome time!
The Vault - CLOSEDPlanet Escape RoomEscape roomIRLRoom is a really great experience. A bit more old school with less spectacle and more puzzle oriented, which is preferable. Puzzles themselves are solid. Some are easy, some are more difficult, some definitely requires a bit of outside the box thinking. But everything makes sense and no leaps of faith or random connections. Very happy I was able to do this with my gf!
7 Deadly SinsEscapology - Universal CityEscape roomIRLGame itself was fine. The room itself is a bit more simplistic than anticipated, compared to a newer 60 Out or Questroom at least. The puzzles are pretty good overall. More locks than some other rooms. But the puzzles to get the keys and codes are pretty decent. Definitely a slightly more old school way of progressing through the room. Requiring more observation and thinking. Would recommend stating whether you want auto hints or not at the start of the game. Overall had a good time. Definitely gonna be doing all of the rooms
Black DragonEscape Room LAEscape roomIRLAmazing room! Definitely one of the top escape room I’ve ever played! The production value is OUTSTANDING! Very large play area, numerous puzzles, and difficulty was definitely on the hit gf we end. It’s easy to understand why 3 players are needed. Highly recommend this for any enthusiast. Definitely recommend keeping your eyes peeled
The Temple of Lost GoldMaze Rooms - Robertson BlvdEscape roomIRLReally awesome fun time with this room. The theme, production, puzzles, gameplay, and value were fantastic. Highly recommend this room!!! Also, shout out to Damien who was a really fun GM
PlaygroundThe Escape Game - TorranceEscape roomIRLOne of the funnest more enjoyable rooms I’ve done in a while. There is so much to do, 2 people wasn’t a great idea. Definitely recommend 3 as a minimum. Puzzles were very on theme for the room and made sense with everything. Easy enough to piece together and great use of space Our GM, Joe was also a fun dude. Very happy to have him brief us and chat after the game. Everything about play that room was great!
Escobar: Part 2 (The Final Hour)The Escape RevolutionEscape roomIRLTime starts the moment the door was open. As GM was talking about the room our time was ticking down. So we started almost 7 mins in. GM didn’t mention anything and that did affect our time. Gameplay itself is very barebones but manageable. Some puzzles are oddly specific and wouldn’t make much sense without a hint or specific thought process. And all puzzles are hyper observational instead of critical thinking. Overall it was a fine times, just not as exciting or rewarding as other places
Chernobyl Disaster: Moments AfterThe Escape RevolutionEscape roomIRLHere’s an important note, THE TIME STARTS THE MOMENT THE GM TAKES YOU INTO THE ROOM AND TALKS ABOUT THE THEME. Any time you spend talking is time you lose in the room. It was fine. Set design was amazing but the puzzles were meh. Definitely more style over substance. End of game feels underwhelming as well. Overall a disappointing experience, about a 5/10
Operation: Santa’s List - CLOSEDBack In Time Escape Rooms - Del Amo MallEscape roomIRLSome puzzles could be better thought out/engineered. A couple puzzles involved just assuming what to do straight without any indication of what to do. Overall the the room is very straightforward and pretty easy to do. Definitely kid oriented room
Project Minotaur - CLOSEDQuest Room - HollywoodEscape roomIRLThis is one to experience! The thrill factor is off the charts. Don’t hesitate to book it if you got the dough and the courage to take on the challenge. No disappointment at all. I would warn about flashing lights and loud noises.
